sports history is riddled with several incidents of athletes conspiring with gamblers to fix the outcomes of sporting events, or criminals acting against athletes whose on-field performance affected their wagers.

because i still have a 50-50 chance of winning and being on the right side. theres not alot of types of bets you can make where you have a 50-50 chance of winning.
Oh and let me make this clear, before a game starts i have no idea if that game will be indeed a fixed game, because if i knew that i would be rich.
I think what some people need to do is not bet some games and just watch them closely the whole game to see how the refs influence alot of games and how the outcomes would probably be differnt if they werent so damn corrupt and part of the whole plot.
disclaimer: this is just my opinion on the subject.

Another example of dozens in this thread that dont understand distribution of probability. If you look at an isolated event, you can find it to be "fishy", but put it in the context of its probability and it looks totally normal. The next 100 times they score 45 in the first half, and the 100 before it, the score more than 3 in the second.
Its called probability. Shit happens, and your lack of understanding causes you to look for an oversimplified answer like a fix.
I have a problem with that statement. 2 high powered football teams couldn't put up 2 freaking field goals? Elam and Vanderjagt? These guys kick 45 yarders in their sleep... and you are telling me that from your logical conclusion it's quite possible that only one field goal could be made in 30 minutes of football?
That was a HIGHLY WAGERED TOTAL years ago... 80% of the public was on the OVER. In fact from what I remember... more people were taking the over than a side from that game.
Again VAN I'm not picking on you... I'm just surprised you made an estimate like that. I have a good feeling of how you cap sports... and naturally you are going to be good at your own system... it's strictly logic. But logically... there was no answer for Chicago to beat Green Bay... especially how dominant Green Bay was playing during the 1st half. So to me... on some games throw the statistical logic... out the widow.
Furthermore, it's not about the refs in every situation. Anyone on any team could change momentum by shaving points. A player could turn the ball over "mysteriously" an offense coordinator can change his play calling "mysteriously." a defensive coordinator can change his coverage "mysteriously"
Oddsmakers are good... but they aren't that good... and for highly wagered games... they need help at times. The Green Bay game is a masterpiece of how the flow in a game can change... It's absolutely mysterious how they can gain 190+yards of total offense in the 1st quarter... but couldn't get 1 first down in the 2nd half... yes... very mysterious... and all of a sudden a very fatigued Chicago defense just mysteriously all took IV's during the 2nd half and refreshed their tired souls... to vigorously wake up and let Brain Griese's ancient ass lead them to victory.
