CLV is a very public play that I disagree with.
Back to back wins as an underdog trend is against them at 60%
Then a back to back wins as dog and against a non-division opponent is 17-34 or 33% ATS.
Efficiency numbers:
Total WAR:
NYJ 1.6
CLV 1.5
OFF WAR:
NYJ .8
CLV .2
DEF WAR:
CLV 1.3
NYJ .8
PE/Play on RUSH:
NYJ .063 is 11th
PS/Play on RUSH
CLV .348 is 23rd
PE/Play on Pass:
NYJ .123 is 16th
PS/Play on Pass Defense:
CLV .305 is 7th
PS/Play on Pass rush:
CLV .305 7th
Passing WAR:
Smith .3
Watson -0.0
PE/Play:
Watson .051
Smith .123
Basically I think NYJ will try to keep it a low-scoring game and running the ball. Hall out is a serious issue for sure. But I think Smith has been pretty decent and can make the plays when needed.
I am not sure Watson can because he has been too streaky.
CLV defense is not completely what it was last year — yet. They are still very good so they want a low-scoring game as well to make up for Watson’s deficiencies.
There are some other matchups I see that play out to both teams wanting to run more. NYJ have just been better than CLV at this. Amazingly enough I trust Smith to make the key throws more than Waston.
But I think if the weather makes it even more of a slow soggy game that helps NYJ as well.
We shall see.
