A pitcher's present FIP uses career numbers to date whereas a pitcher's posted ERA is typically based up season numbers to date.  Thus, the theory that FIP is a more accurate indication of a pitcher's future success.

i jumped on over 201 earlier wanting to sprinkle some more money on something but i think ima hold off for tomorrow looks like we have several nice baseball plays brewing up !!!

You can find all the stats on ESPN, but for FIP, you need to go to fangraphs.com.

 in game back down to 201 1/2....be patient gambit...theres about to be some scoring and a timeout, and it will be back up to 207, and you can hedge out then if u think u need to...

That's what scares me and makes me think you still need to look at this season's ERA, BAA, etc.  If you get a pitcher who's been great for many years and now sucks (use Roy Halladay as an example) isn't his FIP going to misrepresent his future success?

I was about to ask the same thing. Like Beckett nowadays, etc.. I guess you just have to be smart with the numbers you follow.

Exactly.  I, personally, don't use FIP in  my thought process as it excludes way too many variables from a sports betting standpoint.  It's really used more by those GM's that are big into Sabermetrics when analyzing a pitcher's future value.
