My hockey game lost in OT, and now sweating out the Dodgers.  Bottom 9 with man on second and no outs.  Now or never....

Melo...FIP is not an indicator of runs allowed.  It is a metric of a pitcher's overall skill level.

It gives all the stats for free like ESPN but they include FIP that ESPN doesn't have.

Well, according to those that adhere to FIP, it is used as an indicator of future performance.  The theory is that once the ball leaves the bat, the pitcher has very little control of the result except for the HR.  Hence, hits are not a part of the mathematical equation nor are runs allowed.  I'm not saying I agree with this concept in its entirety, but I do see the value of FIP over ERA.

Yup, they boned me.  Leadoff double and they couldn't push him across.  Nice hit for though  

I'm going to bed now so no rush on this...  Please double-check that FIP is cumulative over a pitcher's career rather than based on individual seasons.  I just can't see how a guy like AJ Burnett could have such a significant drop in 2003 FIP from last year's FIP with him only having such a small number of starts this season.  It really shouldn't change that much if his FIP is based on his whole career.   Thanks and goodnight....

I meant drop from 2012 FIP to 2013 FIP.  Shouldn't change that much with 6 starts or so, or I'm really that tired and brain not working at all. GN....

I think we're splitting hairs here.  Whether or not FIP is based upon career or season stats, the point being is that FIP is a more accurate assessment of a pitcher's skill level.  Taking the final number alone, it will indicate the trend one way or another.

knight i would take 1st 5 under hamels is a great west coach pitcher and Corbin is very nice too. should be a pitchers duel i'm anticipating.
