just saw your post, I went down to the book to bet a few.
playing bac I won 12k tipped 1500, the 12 made my trip 5k up, was happy to get out
Thats sweet, man. I love bacc. One of the best table games out there and i like it better than blackjack because you don't have to play every hand. You sit out a hand in blackjack and your neighbor will be quite irrate.
Good stuff.

I know of a couple who took some pretty high wagers from some family memebers of mine a few weekends ago.. It may of just been that he goes to (and stays) the same casino everytime.. I'll get to the point-- it was the MGM.. They actually gave him something called a " skybox" ( not talking about the skyloft )dunno because I havent been to one of them.. He said they stayed and bet the horses.. But they let him and clients play anywhere from 5 to 10 (k)per game per bet.. and a couple of the guys went higher than that on a few side bets... They were never cut off...
Like i said it could just be they let him do it because he only goes once a month but he says he never has problems with them.. Actually a few times he didnt he have the cash and they just marker him up for whatever he asks for...
MGM has always taken care of them and whenever I go, we get taken care of also.. I dont bet near the amount he does but they treat us to free rooms, food and whatever shows we want.. Even got to stay in one of the skylofts for a night... Awesome rooms.. They gave it to me/wife one Wed night...It was the first night of our trip and they told us we could use that skyloft for the first night and then they moved us to a regular room for the rest of the trip..

Most of the big players in Vegas use a bookie. Especially most of the big poker players.
The sportsbooks are a joke and are mainly set up for a bunch of college kids sweating $10 parlays and a bunch of old degenrates always saying who they like but never betting it. Than betting a $50 parlay on 2 -300 ml basketball.
There are the odd big players but nothing of relevence, betting $500 a pop I was moving lines at the Bellagio hockey over unders in February.
Pinnacle sports is the line setter because of the players they have sharpest in the game, there is a story behind pinnacle but too long to explain so I wont get into it.
BTW baccarat is the only table game you have a chance to win.

I would also add the Pass Line on Craps with smart playing on the 6 and 8.

I love the VEGAS DOES NOT LOSE threads. I tried to bet one dime on the laker mav total first half, they said 500 max. Saved me 550
As far as Vegas "not losing" . Vegas in NEARLY BANKRUPT .
MGM stock is like 3 bucks it was like 125 bucks 18 months agao
Venetian is lke 2 bucks and it was 150 or so 18 months ago.
The BIGGEST loser in our economy is VEGAS
PS MGM repoerted over a billion dollar loss last quarter TODAY!!
sounds like a winner to me
some ppl are just dumb, one its the lack of tourism thats causing the stocks to drop, not some random guy betting 300 mill on black. 2 vegas is known as the recession proof enconomy so losses you see here are only a corollary to the even greater losses seen around the country. Vegas may be hurting but theres still a plane landing and taking off each minute filled with new and newly broke tourists..... and as for the all the big player use bookies ha thats a load, obviously you didnt have the bank roll to enter the private boxes and sections reserved for high rollers that place sports bets I know a couple of vip casino hosts (green valley ranch. hardrock, venetian/palazzo that give markers and let their clients bet whatever their rich little heart desires bc even if they win they never leave with it.

Pitt and NFLNightmare are both right - neither is "dumb." I think NFLNightmare's elaboration was more anecdotal and not intended as a direct analysis of the books.

I've never had issues wagering in Vegas...I guess it all depends on the Casino. I've used MGM many times have wagered 2k on pucks np. I will say that they looked at me all funny when I wagered 2k on a hockey game.

love how gamblers are married to lore. they repeat a story long enough and it becomes a fact. it's bs. "vegas is recession proof" hahaha. that's why the big MGM/dubai white elephant needed more funding and isn't fully sold. that's why couple other huge hotel projects sit idle. that's why wynn is giving away rooms at 2 bills a night and he's living off cash reserves. sports betting is down. gambling overall is down. i'm sure some of the online books are hurting as well.

Bally's had to close their sportsbook. They encourage you to go over the the Paris piece of shit sportsbook. Name a major strip casino that doesn't even have a sportsbook? I'm sure a part of the problem is Ballys specifically, but fact is Vegas sportsbooks don't bring in enough money anymore to make it worth their while.

iusuallylose and NFLNightmare alluded to this, but it's worth reiterating that Vegas casinos hate having sportsbooks because the profit is so marginal, that the space could be better served with slots or restaurants. Essentially, they're there as a courtesy to guests who'll hopefully stick around for the tables and restaurants. You could almost consider them "loss leaders" if they actually lost money.

I didn't know that. That book was completely worthless anyways. They always had some woman supervisor who was scared to death to take bets. She would take $100 on games. Yes, one hundred dollars. You could have more if you were a hotel guest, which, of course, eliminated anyone with a clue. I hated that c___.

They want you to come in to place a sports wager and then have to wait for the outcome...
What vegas does is that it waits for sportsbettors to get impatient and play their casino games while they are waiting... You can also cash in on the weaknesses of degenerate gamblers... Impatient, easily bored, pushing limits, difficulty with tolerating distress...
I think that the offshore market for sports betting has changed the culture of sports betting in Vegas...
Wasnt there a time that the NFL lines were set by someor oa team of people in Vegas and basically everyone else just followed what they put out, adjusting lines slightly as needed?

Yes if you have a wager on the games you drink for free. I have at the MGM grand sportsbook many times.

If you are major cheap ass. Just play the 25 cent horse racing game before you get to the sportsbook at MGM grand. You get free drinks playing that to.

I think it depends a lot on the book and who you are actually. I have sat and watched games at a dive book like the Imperial Palace with a $55 ticket in hand and drank $60 in drinks while watching the game, then end up hitting and cashing my $105 ticket and walk away with more than I came in with along with a killer buzz.
On the flip side, I've wagered $550 on a single game at Caesar's and went as far as asking for a drink coupon and the guy said I hadn't wagered enough....not even for one stinkin' coupon!
I see guys that look like regulars walking away with a fistful of coupons at places like Luxor or Mandalay and I go up and wager the same amount and the guy might give me two drink tickets - BTW, I noticed there's a definite positive correlation between how much you tip when you win and how many drink tickets you get during subsequent wagers
So again, I think it depends on the book and who you are; it appears that they take care of their regulars which makes sense, especially if they have a real fish on their hands that they want to keep coming in over and over again.
