MGM is down about 97%

sands corp ( venetian) is like 98%

It's not because of us sports gamblers.

It's because of the economy, and in a bad economy it's the entertainment/tourism venues like Vegas that take it the hardest.

It's not like we gamblers win so much, we are driving them out of business.

I do not think bookmaking has ANYTHING  to do with the egas economy. Vegas only lets you bet small or dumb those are the options. The books in vegas are basically a courtesy to the hotel guests, that is it When people imply or outright say tht the vegas books are so sharp or so smart it is laughable

I dont disagree BB. However poor management of ALL the big vegas companies has made the problems worse then they should be

It is like if you went 1-4 in the early games yesterday, you can have a losing day and go to bad OR a disaster by firing 4 units lakers Money line to get even on the day

 

These companies were so poorly manged that they are down OVER 97% because of the economy.

That would be like the dow jones being today not 7200 but 400

not every industry gets affected the same way during recessionary gap and it would be dubious to compare gambling industry's losses to general stock loss percentages as consumers' disposable income is spread lot more different than usual economic times. trust me, stock analysis is part of my day job and their losses is on par with some of the other companies in entertainment&tourism industry. bookmaking practices might have a negative influence but it is nowhere as big as other factors surrounding the industry.

so why didnt you just make 2 500 bets then? i agree with you guys about vegas. im a born and raised local.this place was a hell of a lot better when i was a kid. much of the problems stem from all the fucking californians who moved here

So true. I looked at the Dow numbers from oct 2007

Dow 13900   then   7486 now

MGM 99.75 then     2.87 now 

sands 144 then      2.33 now

 

As bad as the economy is VEGAS IS WORSE

 Great post about Vegas,2 things they went after the 20 years old kids  for profit and forget about the older people you actually come to gamble, when the harrahs and mgm bought most of the strip. They went and tighten the hell out of there machines.I live in texas and these people here gamble. Most  go to louisiana to play, 5 hours in airports and in the air,opposed to three hour drive to play. Most have said if there going to lose might as well stay close to home instead of tripping over 21 years old  kids, paying 300 for a bottle of wine

playing bac I won 12k tipped 1500, the 12 made my trip 5k up, was happy to get out
