With the same sword they knight you, they gon' good night you with
Shit, that's only half if they like you
That ain't even the half what they might do
    Don't believe me, ask Michael
    See Martin, see Malcolm
See Biggie, see Pac, see success and its outcome
    See Jesus, see Judas
See Caesar, see Brutus, see success is like suicide
    Suicide, it's a suicide
If you succeed, prepare to be crucified
Media meddles, niggaz sue you, you settle
Every step you take, they remind you you're ghetto
So it's tough being Bobby Brown
To be Bobby then, you have to be Bobby now
And the question is, "Is to have had and lost
Better than not having at all?"
    Because I'm...

man this is classic shit right here.....

Wow, I'm sure Shakespeare would be impressed.

Isn't asking who the best rapper is just like asking who the tallest midget is?

Don't know how you say continues to be sick. He is a great artists and one of the best lyricists when he is taking rapping SERIOUSLY.

More than half his stuff nowadays is some bullshit. When he decides to spit seriously, which is less than 50% of the time, he is one of the top 3 alive no debating. When he is spitting crazy, non serious shit he is no better than Akon.

Best artist out is Joe Budden. He can go line for line with anyone and spits deep shit. He has punchlines for days, metaphors that a majority have trouble deciphering and you can feel the passion in his voice that just allows the listener to connect like Pac was able to do.

Hov is the reason Budden's career was squashed. Hov was scared to let the kid shine on his own label and didn't care for Joe so there was no way he was gonna let him become the next big artist. Since then his career has gone nowhere except for his cult, underground followers.

If you are looking for straight lyricism: Crooked, Rass Kass, Canibus, Pharoahe Monche, Kurupt (old days), Mos, Rakim, Dre (outkast)

Overall artists: Nas, Jay (both are past their prime now), Jada, Budden, Dr. Dre (can't argue with both his albums being 2 of the greatest albums to be released), Scarface, Little Brother, Royce 5'9, Joell and Saigon (up and comers), Raekwon (only built for Cuban links might be the best album ever), Jay Electronica, Talib and Mos.... I am sure I have left people out

RIP: Big L, Biggie, Pac, Big Pun

I agree Eminem when he put out his first 2 albums was one of the best lyricists out there... it is sad to see what has become of him... the new shit is just sooooo bad.  I think proof's death was the end of Eminem's illustrious career

    Biggie
    Jay-Z
    Nas

AZ ...a Nas protege is a lot less mainstream but is a hidden gem in the rap world.

Saying that Jay-Z sucks tells me you obviously don't know shit about good rap.  Another comment that completely discounts any real knowledge of rap is saying that 50 cent is good.  On "Get Rich or Die Tryin"  he showed some ability to actually flow and rap logically.  Since then he has tried to make catchy shit that absolutely blows and makes no logical sense or has any kind of flow whatsoever.

So, I typed a text to a girl I used to see
Sayin that I chose this cutie pie with whom I wanna be
And I apologize if this message gets you down
Then I CC'd every girl that I'd see see'd round town and
I hate to see y'all frown but I'd rather see her smiling
*Wetness* all around me, true, but I'm no island
Peninsula maybe, makes no sense I know, crazy
Give up all this pussycat thats in my lap no lookin back
Spaceships dont come equipped with rear view mirrors
They dip as quick as they can
    The atmosphere is now ripped
Im soul like a Pip, Im Gladys night
So de'light from the sun would not burn me on my bum
When I shoot the moon high, jump the broom
Like a premie out the womb
My partner yellin "Too soon! Dont do it! Reconsider!
Read some litera - ture on the subject
    You sure? FUCk it
You know we got your back like chiroprac - tic
If that bitch do you dirty
we'll wipe her a** out as in detergent
Now hurry hurry, go on to the altar
I know you aint a pimp but pimp remember what I taught ya
Keep your heart 3 stacks, keep your heart
Aye, keep your heart 3 stacks, keep your heart
Man, these girls is smart, 3 stacks, these girls is smart
    Play your part
    Play your part"

    ....classic shit there fellas

    I like your style.

Cuban Linx is my favorite rap album of alltime.  Budden is insane now.  You ever hear that Slaughterhouse song on Halfway House?  I can't wait for that album to drop.  I hope they take it seriously.

you can't say dr. dre is among the best rappers alive at all.. hes a producer more than a rapper.. dont get me wrong the chronic and chronic 2001 are fucking amazing.. chronic 2001 u don't ever need to skip a song, they are all sick.. each song flows right into the other without a break.. but dre himself is only an average rapper.. his cd's were more about making his classic beats for death row and aftermath

EVERYTHING DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU THINK IS GOOD MUSIC. IN MY OPINION, JAY-Z IS THE BEST OVERALL RAPPER. IF YOU LISTEN TO REASONABLE DOUBT AND AMERICAN GANGSTER. YOU CAN UNDERSTAND WHY HES SOO TALANTED AND AMAZING. FIRST WHAT YALL NEED TO UNDERSTAND IS THAT JAYZ IS THE REALEST OF THEM ALL. NO ONE CAN EVER SHIT ON HIM BECAUSE HES GENUINE. HE WAS A REAL DRUG DEALER WITH STREET CREDABILITY AND HAS ALL THE SWAG IN THE WORLD.

what about Gangstar?  Big L is one of the best i have ever heard.  WU Tang 36 chambers, might be my favorite CD. Nas, Jay, and 2 pac, Slim, Redman, Jada, GZA, Beastie boys, LL Cool J (1980s), KRS One and Tribe called quest

I have to say Biggie is the best there was.

No one out today is even close to the rappers of the 80s and 90s.
