Springs 0-0, 4.91 ERA vs
Gray, 10-6, 3.72 ERA
Like the starting pitching in a game where neither team has been lighting it up offensively, Cards scored 2 runs in their last 2 games, Rays have scored only 5 total runs in three of their last 4 (6 in the other).
Gray has had some minor struggles recently but was good his last outing, 7 IP, 2 runs vs Cubs.Gray has been very good at home, 2.67 ERA, and a WHIP of only 0.97.
Springs returned from injury the start of last season pitching 3.2 innings, surrendering 6 hits and two runs against Miami. Not particularly sharp but that was that expected, rust and nerves. I think tonight he'll resemble more the pitcher we saw before he got hurt, 2022 and the beginning of last season Springs was about as good as Shane McClanahan.
As relievers can scare the hell out of a bettor these days, I'll bank these starters get 5 innings apiece against these hitters who've had recent struggles and keep the 1st 5 scoring down.
