BAL / MIN: Liam Hendricks was awful last year, with a 5.59 ERA. He's a #5 starter who is getting the nod Friday only because the Twins' #4 starter (the also awful Cole DeVries) was pushed back. I'm surprised Hendricks made the roster again this year, but the Twins have no one better.
On the other side is Jake Arrieta, who finished last year with a 6.20 ERA. Even in 2011 when he had a winning record his ERA was still over 5, and his career number is 5.33.
9.5 is a big number, but we've got two mediocre pitchers against offenses that have combined for an average of 11 runs in the short season so far. I'll play the averages.
PHI / KC: These two teams have combined to score 14 runs so far this season. Throw in the fact this is an interleague game and KC will be surrendering 2-3 ABs on their pitchers at the plate and it doesn't bode well.
As for the pitchers, they aren't as bad as you'd expect from #4 starters. Wade Davis (KC) has a career ERA under 4, and Kyle Kendrick (PHI) had a 3.90 ERA last season (4.30 career). I look for a close, low-scoring contest.

Two young righties on the mound facing young lineups. Peacock had a fantastic spring. Edge to Oakland's lineup and bullpen but overall both teams struggling to hit off righties (thanks Yu and Felix). If we can avoid an Astro bullpen meltdown, I like the total to stay low.
CHI White Sox -1.5 +145
Very effective young lefty on the mound for Chicago against a Mariner lineup that, aside from Morse, has struggled vs lefties so far. He may start to see less strikes. (As to Morse; one writer wrote that his teammates gazed in bewilderment. They had only read about "home runs" in textbooks.) White Sox have hit 5 home runs of their own vs righties. Edge to Chicago's bullpen and lineup. I will take the run line for value.
ATL Braves -1.5 +115
This is more of a Feldman fade than anything. He is struggling with a 2.2 WHIP this spring while also allowing 7 HR. Atlanta lineup looking to rebound off a bad matchup for them vs Lee. Edge to Atlanta lineup, bullpen and starter. I will play the run line.

i like kyle kendrick a lot.. i honestly feel this will be his breakout year and it starts today.. home opener for the Phils and kendricks going to want to piggy back off lee's dominant start.. Wade Davis ok, but struggles 2nd and 3rd time around the lineup.. if Phils offense can show up for me this ones good.
Zito's ready for the home opener after taking 2 out of 3 from LA.. Zito is vastly improved from years ago and he's still out to prove it.. faced the cards twice last year and pitched 14.1ip 2er 10k's.. he feels confident against them especially in spacious At&t park.
Dodger game is purely fading Jonathon Sanchez.. he is so bad.. erratic, will walk himself into bad situations, raise his pitch count and be out after 4-5 innings.. If Greinke pitches remotely well dodgers should handle business.. if they lose this game, id be seriously worried for LA.
taking a chance on the + values, confident in the home teams with the better pitchers taking the bump also like Braves -1.5 but only 3 for contest.. best of luck to all!

Quick question to Mavin or whoever knows the answer: My first pick of the contest was Yankees-Red Sox Under 8 (-120) which I lost. So in this contest am I now at -125 $ (125 to win 100) or at -100 $? I believe I am at -125 since it was said we are only doing straightbetting here, but I just wanted to be sure.
Nonetheless, here is my pick for today:

Nova in general always needs a lot of batting support which the Yankees didn't really show in the RedSox games. The fact that they lost the series at home against a Boston Team which is not expected to blow the lights out this season together with Detroit having their first home game makes me think its gonna be a safe win for the Tigers. Additionally, Novas record against the Tigers is improvable to say the least, he started two times and put up an ERA of 10.66.

IOf the loss was -120 - you're -120$, if -125 - then you stand at -125$. American system is pretty easy to figure those things out. Straighbetting is for that purposes a perfect counting tool

Backing Fisters proven record at home, and Detroit should have a bad taste in their mouth coming off a 1-2 series loss against the Twins.
Dodgers -1.5 (even)
Dodgers appear to have a solid squad this season. No easy feat to take a series from the defending champs, but today could be a different story. Greinke > Sanchez

Yankees have a lot of injuries, better pitching by tge Tigres and playing at home.
Orioles at home, much better lineup and better pitcher.
Blue Jays, they lose the first series of the season, the bats came alive yesterday, like a lot Jhonson and he is better than Doubront, bettter lineup for the Jays.

Jeremy Hefner shouldn't be in a Major League rotation and is only there because of injury. If there is a pitcher Miami can hit, its Hefner, and if there is a team that can give Miami their first win, leave it up to the Mets.

I'm just not a believer in Detroit. At all. Bats are sleeping and if it wasn't for Verlander being Verlander they would be tied with Miami for worst record in the league. Two underachieving teams here, just way too much value
Under 8 KC Royals - PHI Phillies -120
Neither of these offenses have shown me much of anything in the short season thus far. I like Kendrick a lot and think Wade Davis fits into this KC rotation well.
