Well like I said...I do like their pitching. However...an offense with Mauer, Morneau, Young, Cuddyer, Span and Kubel on offense is pretty good too. And maybe Hardy (nobody knows exactly what he can do) And against righties...this team may not lose. What will the 3-6 or 2-5 part of the lineup look like? Mauer, Kubel, Morneau and Thome? You put Span as the leadoff hitter and the first 5 hitters may be solid hitting lefties. I'm just saying...it's hard to mess with that. Maybe facing a lefty would be more of a strugle (ala Kuble/Thome) but I think they can hold their own most of the year. Especially since most of the AL Central's projected rotations are righties.
White Sox: Buehrle, Danks (who normally shut down anyone)...the rest are righties.
Indians: Laffey, Sowers...the rest are righties.
Royals: All righties.
Tigers: All righties.
I think that offense is fierce. And the Twins' rotation...Baker, Blackburn and Pavano can hold their own most of the year (at least I'm expecting Blackburn to hold his own). Who knows what we'll see from Liriano...but we know he'll get another shot. Duensing was impressive when he had his chances. Then Perkins and/or Slowey would be fighting for the final spot. Maybe some darkhorse like Manship or Swarzak could win the final spot. And their bullpen is good too. So I think they have the best shot.
Just giving you my reasoning. ![]()
Don't forget Slowey who was hurt last year. AND don't forget about Neshek out of the pen.
Pavano, Baker, Blackburn, Slowey, and Liriano (who is throwing 95 in winter ball so says a local here who actually watched him throw live).
Span
O. Hudson
Mauer
Cuddyer
Morneau
Kubel/Thome
Delmon Young
J.J.Hardy
Brendan Harris
That is a pretty thick line-up.
The move to outdoor baseball will likely have an effect, but 7 of their 9 regulars could hit 20+ HR's. Not bad.
Still lots of questions all the way around, but I'm pretty excited at the Twins prospects this year.
