Best pitcher right now in the majors = Jair Jurrjens
W/L doesn't mean shit. That is why Felix won a Cy Young last year at 13-12. Johnson only had 11 wins last year in 28 starts in a dominant year. Wins are out of pitcher's controls a lot of nights unless you are Halladay and go CG every other game
Why did you ignore Lohse's numbers? He's having an even better year than Jair, but will also regress. halladay doesn't regress. He's been the best pitcher in baseball for ten years.
Roy Halladay overrated? You've lost all credibility. He is the best pitcher in baseball over the past ten years. And what pitcher has ever been guaranteed to throw a CG shutout everytime out? That's the dumbest measuring stick of all time.
Take your Braves glasses off and look at the numbers
Heres an unbiased opinion: https://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/5793/is-roy-halladay-this-centurys-best-pitcher
The Halladay leghumpers are out in force.
Strikeouts > ERA ![]()
Nice try though. ![]()

And, the best measuring stick of a player in baseball is WAR.
Halladay is number 1 of pitchers in 2011 by a shitload and only behind Bautista for all players. Jurjens is 28th
https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=all&stats=pit&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2011&month=0&season1=2011&ind=0
You can't argue these numbers. Halladay better K/9, BB/9, HR/9, fip and xfip. Roy is number 1 in most.
Xfip is a predictor of future ERA and Halladay, Hamels and Lee are in the top 4.
There really is no arguing with you Halladay leghumpers. To you the stats that favor Halladay are the only stats that matter and the stats that don’t favor Halladay are completely meaningless even if it’s something like ERA.
Wise up. ![]()

Also, if you look at BABIP. Jurjens has been lucky. His BABIP is .260. Halladay's is really high at .315. This is crazy considering the Braves have a bad defense and the phillies have a great defense (#1 in most categories). Jurjens BABIP last year was .300 and Halladay's was .290. Halladay has been unlucky and Jurjens has been lucky and their numbers are still comparable.
ERA and Wins/Losses over a 9 game stretch is ridiculous to look at. It is the smallest sample size and too much luck plays into Wins and ERA over a 2 month baseball stretch. I'll wager anything you want that Halladay ends up with a lower ERA
I say “Jurrjens is the best pitcher in the majors RIGHT NOW” and your argument against that is “Halladay has been unlucky and Jurrjens has been lucky” and “Halladay ENDS UP with a lower ERA.” ![]()
The Braves have committed just 4 more errors than the Phillies have yet “the Braves have a bad defense and the Phillies have a great defense." ![]()
I understand that you are huge phillies homer, but come on dude, even you can’t honestly believe what you’re saying.

w / l doesnt really mean much man. strikeouts to walk ration is big. and doc's is pretty good.
So "strikeouts to walk ration" is more important than ERA?

Cmon...this is all based upon what jj has done so far this season like you posted earlier. It could be luck or it could be legit but I dont think you can go off of 10 starts and say he is the best pitcher in the league. So that would also make matt joyce the best hitter in the league. But you disagreed.
I think guys like halladay, felix, timmy have proven for quite some time that they are the best pitchers in the league right now. JJ has to show he can do it for longer or in a bigger spot.

Dude, look at the real stats and stop looking at a 9 game stretch of ERA. Look at things like WAR, BABIP and fxip that take all of the variables of baseball into account.
Bitter Braves fans make me laugh. Hows 4.5 back feel?
This thread is about who the best pitcher is in the majors so far this season and your argument is “hows 4.5 back feel?”![]()

Where did I disagree?
JJ has to prove that stuff for the long haul.
He has already proven he is the best pitcher in the majors RIGHT NOW SO FAR THIS SEASON.

Another great argument.
How about next you disprove that Jurrjens isn’t the best pitcher right now by saying the Braves haven’t won a world series in over 15 years. ![]()

COME OCTOBER ROY WILL BE THE BEST PITCHER IN THE NATIONAL LEAGUE.
Come October he might be.
Right now, he isn’t.

Refute what I said earlier if you want to argue:
If you want to just say for this season, it is probably Kyle Lohse. He has the same amount of wins as Jurjenns and better WHIP, BAA, K/9. In fact, in 15 more innings, Lohse has given up only 3 more hits and the same amount of homeruns.

Why would I argue with you anymore? I tried and you just came back and said "Jurjens rules!" Nobody really gives a fuck

I pointed out how Jurrjens is the best pitcher so far this season by pointing out that he has the best ERA in the majors and is off to one of the best starts of the past few decades.
Your counterpoints were ““Halladay has been unlucky and Jurrjens has been lucky,” “Halladay ends up with a lower ERA,” and, my personal favorite, “hows 4.5 back feel?” ![]()
I love how you keep flipping back and forth between wins being a relevant statistic and it being meaningless.
As for Lohse, his ERA is 2.13. JJ's is 1.51.

While I’m not so sure about all the majors anymore Jurrjens is clearly the best NL pitcher so far this season.
He leads the NL with 11 wins (despite starting the season on the DL and missing multiple starts) and has a major league leading 1.89 ERA.
The next closest in ERA in the NL is Halladay with more than half a point higher.

Cliff Lee's the best pitching in the NL
If you wanted to do just for the month of June…sure. If, however, we are talking about the whole season so far…
11-3 w/ 1.89 ERA vs. 9-5 w/ 2.66 ERA
… not so much. ![]()
