National's IRVIN entered the game with an impressive 1.10 WHIP and decent ERA. But just in the 1st inning, he IMPLODED with a walk, 5 HITS and 4 ER.
Meanwhile, Irvin's counterpart, KELLY for D'Backs, sports an even more impressive 1.02 WHIP, and HE just imploded! Allowing 8 on board in only 3 ip and 6 runs!!

Amazingly, they left IRVIN on the mound for NATS....so he gives up 2 more runs
His stats are being destroyed with 10 on in only 3 ip and 6 ER

Tracking privately my handicapped selections I have spent the past 4 weeks in utter mediocrity, only forging slightly ahead recently - but that could be a random result.
Until or unless I establish a POSITIVE posted record, I do not recommend tailing my bets! Too risky for you UNLESS my picks are fully supported by a solid winning record this season. Every season is different. A good season last year could become a major flop this year.
I have not yet established this "solid winning record this season"....I still DO NOT RECOMMEND anyone tailing my bets....Only 3 days of good results is NOT sufficient.......and tonight's BAD results are proof of that....

This STARTER is riding a tenuous 10-gameHOT STREAK,
WITHOUT a BAD outing in that streak .....YET!
...but this should be anticipated to end anytime!
Make no mistake, this dude and others I will identify, are GOOD starters - some of them exceptional! HOWEVER, probability says " pitching streaks won't last long"...All GOOD pitchers will - sooner or later - have an "off" day and get roughed up - sometimes mauled - before they resume their stellar pitching performances again. Just CAN NOT be avoided.
Fried is awesome and NYY have an edge, but I don't need the stress...PASS!
Indeed, NYY's FRIED suffered a "bad outing" allowing 8 hits and 6 ER in just 5 ip....He was pushing for 11 consecutive starts without a "bad outing" and those are very long odds, as we see tonight.
My capping had the NYY with an edge and worthy of the -111 line, except for that very risky pitcher streak.....so I backed off the Yankees, ultimately saving me another sure loss.

CAVEAT: even if the starter has a "bad outing" it doesn't guarantee his team loses! Just seriously weakens their chances! His team's bats could come thru with runs to save the day....... maybe

When??? We can't know this for certain but my stats over many years indicate the time to start to worry is after they reach SEVEN (7) consecutive outings without a BAD one in that bunch (at any point in the season) Sure some starter HOT STREAKS may continue for 2 or 3 more performances. It happens! But for me, I don't need the stress that his bubble may burst that day. There's other games to look at. I can simply skip his starts until *AFTER* the inevitableBAD outing, then resume looking at his starts!

Top of the 1st and LUZARDO has already allowed 3 hits, a walk, a homer and 4 earned runs - with NOBODY OUT YET!!!!

Phillies were a heavy fav at home today BECAUSE Luzardo was starting.
But as I noted above - a hot streak of more than 7 consecutive starts WITHOUT a "BAD outing" is caution time and definitely when it reaches 11 straight. Back away! PASS!
Why??
Well Luzardo - who is typically AWESOME! - is proving the probabilities today:
In only 3.1 ip before being yanked, he has allowed 15 on base and 12 earned runs against....and Brewers still have a runner on with 2 out in the 4th inning.
As I said it happens to the best of them. A BAD outing is inevitable for every pitcher. And it becomes increasingly probable to happen after 7 consecutive starts WITHOUT a BAD outing....
