Omnivision Tech (OVTI) keeps moving higher. Lots of short covering yet to be done and their business seems to really be on fire (basically best of breed chips and equipment for cell phone camera and video). Last report blew away expectations. Looking at that chart and the business I'm pretty confident it's headed toward old highs above $30. Now just above $24...

good question. i wondered the same thing. i thought it was one trader. here's another question. is there anyway to actively see more than 1 bid at 1 time. like to see if someone is waiting at $10.10 with a huge bid or ask?

If you have an acct at Ameritrade, open up your level II quote and look at a bid and ask compared to what you see on a basic quote..
The number you see is the summation of the different market makers or participants on the bid and ask..
Now my comment was that the number you see isnt the full figure some/most of the time..so looking at just that number might not tell you the whole sum on the bid or ask.

If you have an acct at Ameritrade, open up your level II quote and look at a bid and ask compared to what you see on a basic quote..

Yeah, we used to call that "hiding size" which means they auto refresh, it is legal and annoying.
I remember the days when they would hold a stock until the pressure was so strong that when the auto-refresh was relinquished the stock would run 50 cents..

Markets are capable of defying logic for years...tuipmania, the South Sea Bubble etc etc, you know the list. Underpinning most the anomalies is the notion that something "fundamental" has altered traditional evaluation methods. It's a "new era" the old laws of economics don't know how to adapt to "new realities" and all the other bullshit the dot com types trotted out (and the telecom tyoes as well) in more recent proclamations. Nonetheless, one cannot dismiss the possibility that true fundamental shifts in geo/econopolitics have not occurred, as they truly do...and as our country is proof of. So the logic is now that developing nations representing billions of newly (comparatively richer consumers) will alter the dominance of the American economy and the American consumer. And this is not to be dismissed. Even a debased dollar redounds to the benefit of American companies who get the bulk of their sales from outside the US. So, to me, although we have just scratched the surface of the credit consequences, and not solved them, the results of seeing a purely American swan dive is mitigated by serious strength of enormous numbers of newly minted consumers all craving to buy what we long ago took for granted. And of course it is a simple fact that the world has never had as much money in circulation in history.

Is that the ten most extreme UP days? That's just not true. Not even close. Or is that the ten most extreme days PER YEAR represents half the returns for that year? That might be true. So that would be 500 days total.

This week I have been looking at SNY (SANOFI-AVENTIS), looking to buy at a dollar-cost averaging rate, and reinvest their dividend payments for at least the next 2-5 years .. they are currently one of the biggest pharmaceutical companies, globally. Lots of US patented pharmaceuticals under their hat. Current price around $42, any thoughts?

Run the numbers. 10 days in 50 years cannot possibly be half of the total return. Best I could find the biggest single day gain (in 1933) was 15%. Even ten of these compounded would only be 4X. The market over the last 50 years is up like 100X. It's not even close. Read it closer. I think he meant the 10 biggest daily gainers per year. I've heard this before as well. It's the top 10 days per year, not 50 years. 1 day every 5 years is not going to do that much, not on the upside.
