Something to remember b4 you begin trying to pick winners......
Jockeys could always hold horses back etc.. drugs are not used anymore because of testing. But things like hot peperrz shoved up horse behind before race or some special smelling salts are still used

The thing to keep in mind about horse racing is that jockeys and trainers are not necessarily trying to win every race they are in.
Some races are just to give horse a workout in preparation for better races or better conditions. It's just like NBA or MLB. Some games just aren't important and teams pace themselves so as not to get exhausted.
If a tipster understands this and has some angle on why the "best" horse isn't going to show, much less win, then you may have something valuable.
Otherwise it's best just learn as much as you can and don't bet much money until you see that you can get a profitable system going.

Conley..almost almost every track has free tip sheets on their websites. There were no such thing as websites when I started playing the ponies & I did indeed spend 50 cents to buy one. I soon learned that in most cases it wasn't worth 50 cents.
Watching races was the easiest way for me to learn. My mind was a lot sharper back then but now I keep data on horses that impress me. Data like this can be stored in "your own" stable on www.equibase.com. It allows you to put a horse in a personal stable where you can add notes on individual horses. The website will also alert you via email when one of your horses works out or is entered in a race.
It's a lot of work but the adrenaline rush you get when a horse in your stable wins is well worth it.
