Moneygram Cracking Down On Transfers

Hey guys, just wanted to give you a heads up if you use Moneygram for transfers to fund your accounts.

I have been using Western Union and Moneygram very extensively for the past 3 years or so and never had any issues, even though my receiver list on the Moneygram screen is a mile long. FYI: If you login to your WU account online, you can erase that long list of people, WU only though.

Anyways, last Friday I made my usual deposit and got a call from MG asking what it was for. I said "for a friend" and she said okay and told me to hold on.

After getting off hold I have to speak with their Compliance Department. He explains to me that I have sent too much money to too many different people in different countries. I pretty much have no believeable explanation for like 30-40 different people in NIC, PHI, and CR, so I just hung up.

For those of you wondering, I was able to get my money back. I went back to the store, and they couldn't find my transaction, so they called it in. The lady was instructed to just give me back the cash, because the transaction had been canceled and removed from the system altogether.

I do a quick google search, and on that very day, MG announced the hiring of a new compliance officier.

I wasn't taking any chances trying to do another MG, but I was short on time, and got a buddy of mine to do it under his name. He transfers money from time to time, but def not like I do.

So he went in and apparently the system wouldn't even let him send it. They said he would have to call in, so of course he says to F it.

So to make a long story short, if you use MG frequently, be prepared to speak to someone about it next time you send money.

As for me, I've gone back to using western union. It's a couple of bucks ($2) more expensive, but if you deposit enough they will cover the fee. MG is in a lot of financial difficulty, and this will not help them. WU will probably be smart and try to sweep this under the rug, cuz they'd probably lose a lot of business cuz of this.

Last note: If I ever get blacklisted from WU, what methods have some of you guys used to fund into 5 dimes? I realize that sportsbook.com and it's affiliates accept basically any credit card, but I refuse to deal with any other book, sportsbook.com especially.

5 dimes doesn't allow my account to fund using credit card anymore. I'd probably just have to call it quits at that point I guess.

I've never had any problems with WU. I've sent hundreds of transactions in the last 10-12 years and no info.

My deposits have been usually $300, with an occasional 200 and 100. I've only done more than 300 a handful of times around 500, so it shouldn't have been a big deal.

Again, the issue is with frequency, so I'm sure everyone who deposits MG here gets a different name every time like I do. My friend probably deposited once or twice as month during football season and he still got flagged. His are usually do the same country too, the Philippines and he is Filipino.

They shot me down in June for trying to send to a Phillipines contact.This after an on-line sign-up process that was similar in-depth to requesting a bank loan..

Those questions to prove your identity/address- Ever lived at one of these addresses-ever been associated with one of these vehicles,etc etc..

 I go through the whole deal and get approved,then they shoot down the transaction,prob just $250,email a # to call,and some guy wants to know my relationship to the reciever,etc..I said it was for one of my employees's relatives,he's at work now so I'm doing it but since I did not personally 'know'the recipient,that was no good. Pissed me the F off...

 

I'd tell them you were a member of the military and these are buddies of yours that you were deployed with. No way they'd deny that.

yeah similar thing happened to me a while back.  Used MG for a couple years never had a problem then about 6 months ago randomly they gave me a hard time said It was gonna require two froms of ID just to send the money and so on.  I ended up switching to WU which I had only used a couple times way back and it worked fine.  Good news I've only had to deposit a couple times since then and last time was in Sept .  Ive been more careful now with my money and always keep a nice comfortable buffer of funds so I dont have to deal with it.  In a way its kinda helped my money management lol.

It's really not worth the hassle is it? I'm not the slickest guy that can make up some BS story when I have to talk to an operator.

Bottom line is I'm done sending moneygrams. If they don't want my business, then I won't use them.

I just find it surprising that MG would turn away such a big part of their business when they are financially struggling right now.

I'm pretty sure when they blacklist you, they don't report you to the Fed government, but I'm not taking any more chances with this dumbass company.

Does anyone have any alternatives to MG or WU for 5 dimes though? The WU store is a little out of the way for me, so I always did MG instead.

The solution is simple, and it amazes me people waste the time wiring money all the time.
