Bingo. I thought things had a chance to be different. I just don't know how you stop the spending train. It would be refreshing to elect someone who could say "no," but I don't see it. I honestly have thought about paying cash for 10-20 acres of land in northern MN and just putting a simple house on it. Buy a solid older car and maybe a simple boat. Just move up there and work at a gas station. Only things I'd need to pay for would be food, utilities, upkeep, and insurance. I could live a long while that way.
