It wasn't. How can you say it was? It was wrong relative to the laws of our society and morals of nearly the entire population of the world. But to say it was objectively wrong means that every single person alive would agree. And you and I both know that's not true.

Furthermore, speaking about objective and subjective wrongs in terms of very specific acts doesn't really hone in on the purpose of subjective and objective morality. Morality tends to speak in more general terms. Example: it is wrong to murder...except when it's not. It is wrong to kill children like the gunman did. It is not wrong to kill children if they're charging at you with loaded weapons and you genuinely fear for your life. Therefore, killing children is not objectively wrong.

Disclaimer: I believe the gunman was wrong and in no way am I condoning his actions.

Well, i am saying what the gunman did was right. Good on him, he should have done it to more people, ...The reality is KK, what if i went on CNN and said this? Would the reaction be the same if i went on CNN and said Andrew Bynum is better than Dwight Howard?

Why is that KK? Because truths such as these are inbuilt in our system....

See how messed up subjective morality is.........?

Here is the problem. Morality is subjective from an ontological perspective, , people have different opinions about what is 'good' what is 'bad'. From epistemology point of view we all know (those that are reasonable anyway) that rape, killing etc is bad, as it is unhealthy and unsustainable for our species. On the other hand most atheists need to say that from an ontological level there is no accountability, we develop morals/ethics to help to thrive as a society.

The whole problem is that we live in a very scary messed up world, where people do what is best for themselves most occasions. This is due to different world views (theism, atheism, is their a purpose, after life, is after the die the end? etc) These are the things that bother me about the modern day athiests and scientists, they make like very nihilistic and make us humans seem so insignificant and the whole universe pointless, that came out of nothing, for no particular reason. If we have no purpose, it's all random, why does it even matter what any of us do? End of the day life, death etc it doesn't really matter from that point of view.

The main problem is everyone having an opinion. This is the motto that kills our society, if what you say or believe is unreasonable. Everything is an opinion, but are they valid, logical and reasonable. If not forget the opinions. Also democracy is stupid, where the dumbest person in the country has the same voting power as the smartest person in the same country (and we still marvel why the world is messed up?). They need to let most intelligent make decisions for society aka Plato's philosopher kings

Your example proved nothing. I still have no idea what your point is.

If you go on CNN and say that the gunman was right, there would be public outrage and cries for your head. If you gave an opinion about two basketball players, there would be some disagreement, but no one would really care.

to me, if a person is a true atheist and doesn't believe in any supreme being(s) or anything after death, then life would seem to have the most meaning for that person.  if this is all there is, that person would be more likely to make the most of it and give life the most purpose since there is nothing else.  that purpose would seem to be to have the best life possible.  the atheists life is the most important (rather than pointless) and the most significant.

on the other hand, if you live your life to appease some supreme being, where no evidence exists that it exists or what the hell it wants you to do, if that supreme being does not in act exist, then all that was done to appease it was pointless.

Clearly you don't understand the definition of what objective moral values and duties mean.

To say that moral values and duties are objective is to say that they are valid and binding independent of human opinion.

And so you are wrong by saying that what makes something objectively wrong means that every single person alive would agree. As I have stated above it is independent of human opinion.

Go do some research and you will see that clearly you have misunderstood objective moral values and duties.

Because relative to the views of the vast majority of society, what the gunman did was wrong. So they are perfectly justified in crying outrage even if you disagree.

You can have your own opinions, but there are laws of society and sometimes you have to conform your actions to that of society regardless of what you believe. This has no impact on morality.

See the difference between arguments regarding god's existence and arguments regarding objective or subjective morality is that i cannot prove that god doesn't exist. I CAN prove that objective morality does not exist. All I have to do is come up with a single situation where murdering innocent children is NOT wrong. For something to be objectively wrong it must be wrong 100% of the time with NO EXCEPTIONS. Since I can give a scenario where murdering innocent children would be acceptable, it is not objectively wrong. I can extend this for any "objective wrong" you try and throw at us. Therefore, objective morality does not exist.

    Problems with atheists!
    1. No inference to the best explanation? But they believe there isn't anything else.No god, no diety, no "is", just nothing?
    2. Where did we come from?
    3. Did the universe begin to exist?

In a hypothetical scenario with your view ClubDirt and also to SYSTEM, if you had a job interview for the position that you have always wanted all your life (you are happy with the money, the job descrisption etc) you are running very tight on time, there is an old lady that falls and hurts herself real badly, no one is around. What would you do help the old lady or run off to your job?

I used prison or death as examples of why it wouldn't make sense to kill or steal, since this is our only life...

no, I don't need laws to tell me what to do (I need common sense), but following them makes my life more enjoyable...

a "god" is best explanation? seems to me, "gods" since the beginning of time have been an easy explanation....

why do you need to know?

    maybe we'll never know....

    maybe someday we will...

Doesn't seem like a problem to me...live your life to the fullest!

I wouldn't want a job where they wouldn't understand that I was helping a old lady that was hurt.

What would you do help the old lady or run off to your job?

a "god" is best explanation? seems to me, "gods" since the beginning of time have been an easy explanation....

why do you need to know?

    maybe we'll never know....

    maybe someday we will...

Doesn't seem like a problem to me...live your life to the fullest!

I wouldn't want a job where they wouldn't understand that I was helping a old lady that was hurt.

Sorry, kk, but you cannot say objective morality does not exist, if you can't prove God doesn't exist.

Objective morality does not exist, only if God doesn't exist.

Objective moral values, I mean values which are valid and binding whether people believe in them or not and so it is independent of human opinion.

Actions like rape, cruelty, racial hatred, and child abuse aren't just socially unacceptable behavior. They are truly evil.

The man who says it is morally acceptable to murder innocent children is just as mistaken as the man who says 2+2=5, and the man who says it is morally acceptable to rape little children.

Some things, at least, are truly evil.

But, if that is the case, then it follows logically and inescapably that

    Therefore God exists.

Some people think that evil in the world provides "overwhelming evidence" against the existence of God.

I think the exact opposite is true. Real evil in the world actually serves to prove the existence of God, since without God to ground objective moral values, good and evil as such would not exist.

On an atheist world, nothing would exist. Why is there something, rather than nothing. Atheists cannot deny there is something. Saying there is nothing, no god, no deity, no "is" etc is the most irrational belief (atheism). We might not know the details, but a rational being cannot deny there "is" something.

Because we don't have an answer that makes it irrational? YOU BELIEVE IN MAGIC.

Of course we can deny there "is" something. We have no idea what came before the big bang. I would love to know. I hope we find out before the end of my lifetime. However, just because we do not know does not mean I need to jump to ANY CONCLUSION. I am fully capable of admitting that I do not know and carrying on with my life.
