Why do you believe them? because they say so? Again, i am a Catholic, if i go and murder someone and say i did it because of Christianity, you will believe me? Or am i saying it as an excuse to take the blame off myself? My question is, instead of just being gullable and believing everything they say, why dont you read the Doctrine and see if its true. Where is Christianity does it instruct you to do bad things? Where?

i wouldn't say i'm morally perfect.  i'd say, morally pretty solid.  i offered you a chance to use me as your spitirutal and moral guidance couselor for a period of time.  don't knock it until you try it.

Pretty solid? Against what standard? Dont you get it? Under Atheism there is no objective morality, so how can you say you are solid when there is no standard to measure it against? Your view of your own morality under Atheism is nothing more an illusion.

but i tell you i'm not a hypocrite like family values politicians or religious leader who go on and on about happy people and then get divorced or ignore domestic violence and child molestation and many things the bible says are abominations.  i have no problrm with imperfect people, hypocrites are a different story because they are all about manipulating the lesser people to suit their agendas which usually results in more money and power for them.

I agree with you, but who goes around proclaiming that are morally perfect beings? Do religious leaders do it? I havent heard it. It is something you assume in your head. Where has a religious leader said they are better than anyone else. Sure they can communicate what is written in scripture, but that doesnt automatically they are practising it. Just because someone is communicating a message, does mean they are self proclaiming a message that they do it. If they werent sinners themselves, then their would be no reason for them to be Chrsitian.

If i go and rape a woman and i am a Catholic, can a link be established between my belief in a doctrine which teaches the acts as i laid out above and my actions?

we'll try this one more time.  brother system and kk have tried to explain this to you.  if you are a catholic and rape some chick, it would not come under the scrutiny of the Church of ClubDirt et al.  now, if you did it and tried to justtify it with your religion, that would be different.  or, when it happens in hardcore muslim countries and the perpetrator gets away with it or gets a slap on the wrist because they interpret islam as marginalizing women, that's different.  when the victim is a little boy and the church covefrs it up, that's different.

What does the Catholic Church have to do with me raping? They arent a law enforcing agency. Furthermore, i dont care about Islam. This is about your bashing of Christians which comes about from your insecurities.

so when a person commits a crime and he happens to be christian, muslim, black, white skinhead or whatever group, so be it,.  it happens all of the time.  but when the person uses his group's "values" to justify it or uses his group to manipulate victims or cover up the crime or to justify the crime or the racism or the bigotry, then that's when the person and the group needs to be called out.

This is non sequter. The christian Doctrine clearly teaches to love each other, not to murder, steal lie and rape. How can one use these values to justify there actions? I am at a loss. Sure they can cover up, but this is a completely different issue.

This is why I don't believe the bible though. That Noah's Ark story just seems a tad bit on the unrealistic side. Just a little bit.

And isn't it murder if God sends the floods to wipe out everyone not on the ark? Or is he exempt from that?

rostos, we're not understanding each other on many of those topics, but as to the one, i don't care what standard you or anyone else is talking about.  i don't need a standard or a book or anything else to tell me how to act at this point.  i have my brain and my experience.  i'm good with those.  no need for the standards of others or books.

Club........Seeing as though as soon as a Christian does something bad, and you jump all over it....why didnt you post this story? It was all over the news / web when it came up? Oh, it might put a Christian in a good light, but thats not your thing is it?

In explaining why he didn't keep the ring, Harris said he had a religious upbringing.

"My grandfather was a reverend," Harris said.

"He raised me from the time I was six months old and thank the good Lord, it's a blessing, but I do still have some character."

In regards to the flood. God is the giver of life and he has the right to take llife. He isnt under anyone obligation to extend life. If he wants to take it, he has authority to take it.

I just have this problem that it doesn't seem realistic, like many stories in many religious books.

I just can't fathom animals that are natural predators coexisting on a boat. Let alone that many animals weren't even known of at that point. How did they come about if they were wiped out in the flood?

If God exists, isnt it possible someone rises fromn the dead? if God doesnt exist, then someone cannot rise from the dead.

If God exists , isnt it possible for the story of Noah to be true? If God doesnt exist, then the story cannot be true.

See how your presuppositions of naturalism affects your way of thinking?

Thats my point, if Jesus says my main message is to love each other and forgive each other, then i go out and murder someone...Is it Christianity's message and motive making me murder?

If i turned around and said Jesus made me do it...I mean seriously......Would you believe me? No you wouldnt, so why bring it up?

Rostos, please answer the following two questions in the following manner.

    1. Have you ever heard of someone committing a terrible act and then saying god told them to do it? Yes or No. One word answer only.

    2. Have you ever heard of someone committing a terrible act and then saying (I don't even know how to word this because it's such an absurd notion) "atheism told them" to do it? Yes or No. One word answer only.

i don't want to speak for others but i get them from my own ability to think through situations and my experience in interacting with other people.

i don't understand your second question.

I'm sorry but this is a really, really stupid question. If the only reason you don't cheat, steal, etc. is because of god, then you are a despicable person (not saying you necessarily are).

fool > f*ol in the bible

i have to agree with kk here.  if i had to choose one person to invite into my house, would i rather invite the dude who isn't going to rip me off because he thinks his god will punish him after he dies or the guy who won't rip me off because he's not a social moron and knows that's not the proper way to act around other people based on his own intelligence and experience?

seems pretty obvious to me.  who is choosing the first guy?

    assh*ole > fo*l in the bible

But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!’ will be liable to the hell of fire. Matthew 5:22

    covers = atheists

Yes, but is it the Christian God? Nope.

No, But this is where you are being tricked and gullable. How can one draw a link between Jesus' teachings and killing someone? About the same connection as atheism causes Killings. There lies your problem KK, it seems as though you want to believe the person who says they killed in the name of God, because it suits your argument. But when you dig deep and find the truth, the persons claim is non sequter.

Rostos, please answer the following two questions in the following manner.

    1. Have you ever heard of someone committing a terrible act and then saying god told them to do it? Yes or No. One word answer only.

Yes, but is it the Christian God? Nope.

    2. Have you ever heard of someone committing a terrible act and then saying (I don't even know how to word this because it's such an absurd notion) "atheism told them" to do it? Yes or No. One word answer only.

This is a completely different argument. This comes to arguments for Gods existence. By having a persupposition of naturalism, you coem in with a bias to a view.

done in the name of religion...

killed in the name of Atheism= none
Atheism is not a principle, cause, philosophy, or belief system which people fight, die, or kill for...

    Non sequeter....

    This is your argument

    - Christianity's main message is to Love each other as you love yourself, forgive each other, follow the 10 commandements which includes do not kill

    - Rostos is a Christian, he goes out and kills people then comes back and says he did it in the same of Christianity.

My question to you is, how do you draw a connection between the above 2? You are believing the person in this case, because it suits your argument, But if you investigate the truth, you will know it is non sequeter.
