you do the math.  He goes to nevada's casino every freaking weekend just to toss his customer's bets to them.  He goes so much, he gets comped everything. 

don't get stupid, just get smart.  With you being a bookie, you collect first before every action.

GL highly doubt anyone from Denville or Wayne will do a thing.  I've had many experiences of being on both sides of the fence for not getting paid and stiffing the book.  Not one of these occassions had led to voilence.  Actually dealt with a guy in Wayne/Patterson who laid down like a baby.  Wonder if it's the same bar.

I recently just ended my tour of book running... well, recently meaning almost 2 years ago....


Anyways  -  I've had people play & lose in the tunes of 4, 5, 6 thousand dollars, as I'm sitting there, monitoring their account, I knew damn well they weren't going to be able to pay the money all in 1 meet-and-swoop payment. 

So, we established payment plans, and about 70-75% of them paid.  I had 3 guys skip town.  Whatever.  Wasn't going to lose too much sleep over it because they'd be hiding for the rest of their lives... not me.

 

So, the correct thing to do is call "dude", let "dude" know you fucked up, and tell "dude" you want to pay back the 8 G's in payments as you're showing iniative in wanting to pay your debt off.


I tell you what though  -  don't treat 'em like it's a credit card bill, or car note, or shit of that nature.  Treat the debt as if you were to miss one payment, you'd have your balls snipped and fed to you.  Seriously.  Because one non-payment for a week or two will develop a pattern and the experienced long-timers (bookies) know that they aren't going to get their money.

 

The macho-man act is old.  Killin' em with kindness is the correct thing to do.  2011 standards... not 1980 mob mentalities. 

 

Man up, Denville1, and pay your debt.  And let this be a lesson... a hard, rough lesson learned.  With gambling, comes responsibility... blah blah blah blah.  I'm sure you already know.

Let a friend share my line which he ran up and said he had no intentions of paying.  80% was probably his debt 20% mine.  Ultimately it was my responsibility but said fuck it we ain't paying.  Had to deal with phone calls for a while, but in the end just told him st8 up do what you got to do but I wasnt paying. 

Although I do not encourage it, I've seen this done over and over mainly by that same friend.  If you think about it as long as they ain't connected what are they really going to do?  Risk going to jail for a few grand?

Sorry buddy I was a young college kid at the time.  I never said I encouraged the practice of fuckin bookies over.  I was just saying majority of the time nothing is going to be done about.  I was a book for a short period of time and same happened to me. 

Wait a minute now it is all starting to make sense.  Judging by your rage I guess during your "book making days" you got bent over numerous times by guys not paying their debts and u took it right in the ass.  Hell I may have been one of those guys for all you know.........Now fuck off bitch.

all i can say guys, is that it's touching how much you all care. brings tears to my hardened eyes. that's why it will be so difficult to end this thread after the jets get me even (remember, i won $5k yesterday!). life starts anew tomorrow.  and as for the guy criticizing my drinking and use of oxy, it actually makes me a better father.  i know it's hard for most to understand, but the bedtime stories are more interesting when opiates are running through my bloodstream, and i can stomach the ahole parents at my kids games after i snort a rail of oxy in the port-o-john. i'll miss you guys for sure! stay well everyone!! the power of faith prevails once again!!!

This is unreal. Is this a common practice?  I see parlay cards all over but don't bet them so I don't pay any attention. That said, this is an ingenious idea. He wins every which way you look. Love it.

I liked the original question of, "do bookies get violent?"... Everyone jumped on the 8K debt, but do they get violent like the old days? a la sopranos, sending "Butch" to break a bone. We live in a highly regulated, legalistic world, I doubt it's like that anymore.

slit your tires, poison your dog, smash your windows, scare your lady, park outside your workplace, confront your boss....tons of non lethal but effective ways to get your attention...

i'd say a quarter of the books would beat your ass/scare you into paying.

a quarter just don't deal with you anymore. no scare tactics. nothing. (probably the smartest route to stay out of police ears)
