Americans vs Canadians

So, I hear...Canadians don't like Americans.  Does it go the other way around?

Yet, both are able to put up with one another on common ground.

Well, I'm an American from Ohio, and I really like Canadians.  What's the stereotypical basis of your arguement for this thread??  Was just up there last summer for fishing, we did a fly'in on this virgin lake, and within 3 days, my arms were sore from fighting pike & walleye.  Beautiful scenery.

I'd say that many Americans had an ignorant smugness toward Canadians. Not all Americans, just the stupid majority.

Now, that ignorance will destroy the economic prosperity which those Americans held in such high esteem. All the while little Canada, with their oh-so-wretched socialist principles, will whether the storm far better than the ignorant masses below.

Americans are too stupid to realize that America was largely founded upon socialist principles. The universities, the libraries, the interstate highway system.........

There have been public opinion polls showing that overall Canadians like Americans and vice versa.  Also US and Canada rank among the most friendly nations and neighbours.

This may be true but if Canadians aren't fans of the US, why does 90% of the polulation live within 100miles of the border?  I have nothing against any Canadians and have met some really great people and some real douchebags, kind of like anywhere else I go.

I am in Canadian and travel quite a bit in the US. I generally have a very positive feeling about Americans. Most are kind, friendly, and outgoing. 

What I think generally causes this perception is our vast differences on political views. Canadians and Americans are very similar in most areas, except for this. We like similar sports, TV, foods etc. But we differ greatly on our thoughts on healthcare, gun control, international relations, education etc. Canadians tend to be more like European countries on these views. 

Of course, there are plenty of douchebag Americans, just like there are plenty of douchebag Canadians. Most Canadians think Americans are pretty ignorant and there is a lot of truth to that. I am usually pretty surprised to find how little Americans know about anything outside of their own borders. I've been asked if Canada has a McDonalds, if we have area codes, what state Toronto is in and other ignorant questions. I think this frustrates Canadians as we tend to be more open to learning about other cultures and know way more about the US than Americans know about Canada.

You're real intelligent...base your perceptions about what Americans are or are not, on innocent questions that 1 or 2 American kids have asked trying to find  about your silly, insignificant little country....everyoone knows what America is all about because, for all intents and purposes.. they have to know...but Canaduh...

imo americans and canadiens are very similar. I'd say we have a great relationship. Only real difference is some of those pussies speak french.

You have to be kidding... This is why Americans have a bad reputation around the world. You truly believe you are the center of the universe, don't you, potter?

If Americans (generalizing of course) took their heads out of their asses and took the time to embrace other cultures, not only would America be a better place but also the world.

**Just so I don't have to reply to any of the nonsense that comes after this post, the reason most Canadians live 100 miles (imperial system needs to go, by the way) from the border has nothing to do with the US and everything to do with climate.
