I can't understand why Smoak isn't getting any love. Batting over .300 with 5 homers and 20 RBIs. It could SO be worse.

His team's offense is pretty pathetic.  Think Hosmer will make it huge?  Rank these 1B for keeper and non-keeper leagues. 

LaPorta, Smoak, Wallace, Hosmer, Trumbo

20 RBIs on that team is impressive. And I think he's the best option if you don't have one of the top flight guys.

But those rankings can change every day. Hosmer could be an absolute monster if he lives up to his potential. Key word...IF. Trumbo is pretty solid and looks like he'll hold onto that job since Morales doesn't look anywhere close to returning.

Ya Beckett is off to a good start for the first time in years. But him and Billingsly are pretty much the same pitcher. Then throw Pedroia on top of it. Yikes. Then he is also a 3 year keeper. I would have given up alot more then that if i knew he was available. I asked before and was told no.

How many players can you have under contract? And do you lose a pick if you have more than 4? Or Vice versa.. Gain a pick if you have less?

I have a question about this too.

According to the rules, it says "The most players you can have under contract at one time is 10. If you go over this limit you will lose however many draft picks you are over."

Lets talk about this from PennState's perspective. He has 5 keepers...that clearly means he can't have as many draft picks as a guy with 4, so which pick does he lose? And for me with 3 keepers...do I get 1 draft pick?

And what happens if you end up trading a draft pick at one point but accumulate so many keepers that you lose the right to draft in that round? What if I trade a 21st rounder but have 3 keepers AND give a rookie contract (which should take away my 21st pick)? Then what happens?

OR...do rosters extend next season?

ManRam...just do us a favor when you get a chance and update the keepers list. Add Jamoaks and add that you have Price and PSM has Pedroia.

great pick up with hosmer.. hopefully for your sake he pans out.. i see no reason why he wouldnt... should be the real deal 

URISS and SPARKY:   from what i understand after reading all the rules is that we only loose a Draft Pick if you go over 10 Contracts, NOT 4 !  this year we gave out 4 contracts so far ( one 4yr, two 3yr, and one 2yr. )  They were due by Opening Day so they'r in already and we have a choice to Add 2 more contracts if we want at seasons end.... 

The two contracts we can add are optional: 

Prospect Contract:  can be used on a player on our roster at seasons end that's eligable for rookie of the year award. (check the rules for ROY eligability, pretty sure they are on our keeperleague.webs.com site manram created..)

Franchise Tag: can be used on a player drafted in the final 9 rounds of the draft (so RD 17 thru 25), or an Un-Drafted Free Agent NOT OFF WAIVERS, or by a TRADE  (player must of been eligable on the team u get him from)

SPARKY:  your assuming PSM would loose a pick cause he has 5 keepers but i dont think he does, you only loose picks if u go above 10 so its not his fault if he gets other managers to trade him their keepers, it just benefited him cause thats a position he doesnt have to fill come draft time.  and we dont gain extra draft picks if we have less keepers then the next guy...  IM NOT SURE WHAT DRAFT PICKS WE LOOSE IF WE WERE HAPPEN TO GO OVER THE 10 CONTRACT LIMIT THOUGH

**** im getting this fom reading over the rules multiple times so please correct me MANRAM if im wrong in any way but from what i gathered off the rules everything i posted is right..

Thanks Philly. Everything he said is correct. Go over 10 contracts lose your 1st round pick the following year. Go over by 2 and have 12 keepers you lose your first 2 draft picks and so on.

SPARKY:  3 keepers + a Prospect contract wouldnt make you loose a Draft Pick.. 10 is the limit.. go over 10 we loose a Pick but im not sure what Round we would loose it in, im assuming the 1st, go over by 2 contracts and i would say we loose 1st and our 2nd Rounders, go over by 3 and you dont pick until Rd 4.   <--- that right Commissioner ??

Something may come up where we can add or change something down the road. Just like you guys this is my first time doing this as well. It is not a idea i came up with but one i came across that i thought was very good.

i guess i was typing post #418 as you were posting manram.. ok good, i understand the rules now..

thats why trades have to be thought out and not rushed because you can send away 3 of your keepers and if you didnt get back any then your searchin to fill positions while another Manager has 7 positions locked up with all his draft picks in tact..  

hey ManRam, come draft time next year do u have to submit all the keepers to Yahoo so they pull them off the Draft Board and their name is highlighted to draft..? 

What I'm trying to say is this.

We have the option of trading 24 picks.

So everyone goes into the draft next season with 24 picks.

PSM has 5 guys under contract PLUS his rookie contract AND Franchise Tag.

PSM now has 7 guys under contract. Then he gets 24 picks in the draft.

Sparky has 3 guys under contract PLUS a rookie contract AND franchise tag.

Sparky now has a total of 5 guys under contract. Then I get 24 picks in the draft.

Does that mean PSM will have 2 more roster spots next year than Sparky?

Im not sure if i wrote this in the rules or not but im pretty sure if after the 2nd year you are under the 10 man contract you gain a draft pick.

I guess it doesn't matter. It's not anything that I will take into account when making trades so it's irrelevant for the time being. But in the future...I'm just pointing something that I had a good question about.
