My original list did not include Urban Myer and then I realized that his omission wasn't because he wasn't a great coach,it was because I detest him.So to be truthful with myself I must include him on my list.
Urban Meyer - There really is no way to make a case against him.
Houston Nutt - Before Mississippi and Arkansas, he took Boise State from 1-AA to 1-A and although the Broncos were rated #112 out of 112 1-A schools he took them to a 5-6 record including losing in the final minutes to Wisconsin 28-24 as a 35 point underdog. Before that in his final 2 years at Murray State he went 22-3 and 16-0 in OVC play winning OVC coach of the year honors in both years.
Mike Riley - What he does in Corvallis is amazing and under appreciated.
Jim Harbaugh - It may be too soon to include him on this list but I love his swagger and the early results say that he is on the a fast track to being one of the elite coaches in the NCAA.(I can't wait to see how well he has Andrew Luck prepared for this year).
Mike Leach - He's had much more success than just at Texas Tech, what he did as OC at Oklahoma and Kentucky was amazing. If my dreams come true,LSU will struggle mightily this season and Mike Leach will be the Tigers HC in 2011. I would love to see him have the resources and recruiting ability of a "Big Time" program like LSU.

I dont necessarily like Spurrier but he has done much more than dominate at Florida. They guy won an ACC Championship with DUKE! That accomplishment is currently unthinkable

Yes Boom, his record is just OK. However, how many winning seasons did they have before he got there? They were bottom 10 in the nation. Now they are ranked at least once a yr. + win bowl games.
Also, in following in his 1st mentor Joe Pa, how clean is his program? Whats the graduation rate? How many infractions?

Love Mike Leach Leach would be on the list but he is currently not coaching...

He is a good coach, no doubt about it. But, I just don't see Schiano as among the elite..

Schiano is a great coach in the sense of recruiting, motivating an administration and student body to support the team and teaching fundamentals. He lacks some gameday coaching ability though. I watched Butch Davis coach him under the table in 2008.

When??? Not at South Carolina if that's what you mean.
Yeah he did good at Florida...But Hell... I can coach Florida.
Take any person with decent knowledge about the game and they can win 7 games at Florida...
Steve Spurrier is WAAAYYY Overrated IMO.
Have to disagree
Duke had become the perennial cellar-dweller of the ACC. Spurrier proceeded to lead his Blue Devils to levels of success the team had not known in over twenty-five years, including Duke's first bowl game appearance since the 1960 Cotton Bowl, and a tie for the 1989 ACC championship, Duke's first since 1962.[11] After back-to-back winning seasons, Spurrier was named the ACC Coach of the Year in 1988 and 1989
BEST OF HEALTH, HAPPINESS,WEALTH, BLESSINGS and LUCK TO ALL !!

As someone who married a Michigan State Spartan, let me point out another little tidbit about Saban........
His MSU club beat Spurrier in his last game coaching the Gators. That team was so good, SABAN WASN'T EVEN THERE!
He signed with LSU before the bowl game (guess the only green was on the Spartan uniforms-nice going) and the Spartan brass decided they didn't need Saban anymore and let Bobbie Williams coach the bowl game.
Michigan State beat Florida (you don't see that often, do you?), and Spurrier bolted to Washington. It was the only time at Florida his Gator team lost three in a row.
Saban then went on to coach LSU and Alabama. I'm sure you've noticed.

Much like Tom Izzo, he doesn't care about the stars when recruiting. He recruits players who will fit into his system and are willing to work and improve. I think he and his staff develop players better than any staff in the country.

HC of "The Academy" , and if you went to Army, oh well, you're not a Marine
I just think the guy has something. It's unbelievable the work he does with the amount of talent he actually gets. According to Rivals. The team is full of guys that are an average of 1.35 stars, which is the lowest of all 120 teams in the NCAA. Now with the academies its a bit different. There could be players that would have been good but had troubled backgrounds and only went to boot camp to change their life around. Those kind of guys go unnoticed of course. Hard for me to say this, especially with them us last season. With the amount of talent Notre Dame possesses they should never lose to Navy but they did. They did 2 years prior, even though they shouldn't have. The thing is the guy must be a great motivator and an even better coach. If he can put together a group of guys who nobody thinks can do anything and win games he should be accounted for.
No academies for me although I've thought and I am still thinking of the Air Force
Whodey would love to be a pilot.

Totally agree Boom. Spurrier has a good offensive mind, but he won at Florida primarily because he had superior talent. Since he has left Florida, he has been exposed as one of the laziest coaches in the league. I'm not hatin' on him for wanting to make his tee times, but I don't think he would even make my top 20. I certainly would not hire him to coach my team.

Whodey - Who did Ken Niumatalolo learn under? Oh yeah, That's right....My Boy Paul Johnson. Which IMO Johnson is the master of option football.
Jimmy - Damn Right. I grantee you me and you could knock down 8 or 9 wins at Florida.... Hell might even win our Bowl Game...
Spurrier was a good Coach... Im not debating the fact the guy don't know football. I m simply saying the game has pasted him by.
Paul is the master of the option running game.
That being said. Just wait until Navy adds more of a passing game to the passing attack which they have decided to add this season. I think the guy is a hell of a coach and this is his first stop before he has a great career. I think he could potentially revolutionize the option offense. I see it becoming more and more of a passing offense. Not saying the pass is going to so much take over but I believe it becomes a great part of the offense. I think he adds pieces to fit within his system and I think he continues to improve the Navy program as long as he is there.

Here is why Paul is the Master.....
Do you know much about Tom Osborne when he coached? Well, he and Tom are the Two best on the Field Play Callers I have Ever seen.
Watch Paul Johnson, he has NO Playbook and NO offensive guy in his ear. Hell, he doesn't even listen to a headset. Tom was the same way...
And now that Ken has followed Paul for years he is developing that killer instinct of calling a game.... People don't understand the importance of a guy who can have total control of his sidelines.
See the truth is passing is a BIG part of that offense.. it really is just the ORIGINAL version of Spread option Football at it's purist form.
