1. Nick Saban - Why? He is the guy who settles for nothing more than perfection. This guy is super competitive and would probably eat his on young to score another victory. He has the " blue print of success " and also surrounds himself with other great coaches on his staff. To Win a NC at two schools is an accomplishment to say the least, to win it and to have everyone around you scared out of there minds is another. Nick has a few more runs left in him and is a no doubt hall of fame coach.
2. Urban Myer - The Evil one, the dirty guy, the common live and die 365 days a year type guy. When Urban came into the SEC everyone laughed and said he couldn't win running that offense in the Big Bad SEC. LOL.... Bling Bling. Urban has done very well and will continue to do great things as long as he stays healthy. Although I will say getting to recruit from the state of Florida and pretty much own it really isn't fair. But, give the guy his credit, hes been very good.
3. Bill Snyder - Most of you degenerates don't even know much about this genius. The guy is one of if not the greatest football minds the game has ever seen. His ability to recruit players is second to none. You guys should spend some time and look at some of the coaches who has left his staff's and went on to be successful. IMO his team this year will really shock a few teams and start to regain that respect they once had. He is the man who could do so much with so little.
4. Kirk Ferentz - Smash mouth and tough. This guy knows what it takes to win at the game of football. He has never been a flashy coach or the guy who was sought after every year. But to those of us who know college football, we know that this guy is about as good X's and O's coach as it gets. Fundamentals, the guy lives and dies with it. Also he is one of the better recruiters in the country. I know you think I m crazy with that statement, but 5 stars or 4 stars don't mean nothing to this guy. He recruits football players.... you get it? Players who fit his system and who will be men when they leave his program. The guy is also a very good Post season coach as well. His bowl record or especially in big games is pretty damn good.
5. Brian Kelly - Offensive genius. The guy is a winner and the only reason he isn't higher on this list is because he hasn't been coaching at the D-1 level for a long time. I have no doubt that Notre Dame has found there guy. He is like that "Sleeping Giant" term for coaches. Once he starts to get those recruits Notre Dame is notorious for getting, Watch out. Will he win a NC at Notre Dame? Absolutely no doubt in my mind he will, it's just a matter of time. Do I think he is a good person? No. But being a good person doesn't mean that you can coach football. To be honest with you, I think all the guys except for coach Ferentz on this list are bad guys personally. But none of that takes away from there ability to win football games and that's what it's all about.
Honorable Mentions: Paul Johnson, Mike Riley, Houston Nutt, Bob Stoops, Mac Brown, Frank Beamer, Jim Grobe, Randy Edsall, Gary Patterson, Kyle Whittingham, Chris Pettersen.

Very Close to adding Skip Holtz Nice call...

one of the worst teams in college football history ? many say that 2005-2006 Temple team...in Al Golden's 5th year (off 9-4).....they are favorites to win the MAC and a possible 10 win season....you watch.. they will play the hell out of Penn St and might beat UConn (+4 now I think).....
It appears Troy Calhoun can coach a little bit.... when Arkansas has a big year...and Louisville keeps struggling....time to admit that Bobby Petrino knows what he's doing ......
if you have Brown and Stoops on the list....you can't leave off Tressel.....
My top 5.....that could take over ANY team...weak > great...and make them better Urban Nictator Kelly Harbaugh Petrino * damn right ... I want ass kickers.....that are FOCUSED on getting the job done.....could care less if they are nice to the media....or don't smile enough
It is better to be feared - than to be loved.

to you boys that constantly refer to certain coaches as ....GOOD......or .....BAD guys
to me it seems like this is based usually on their personality......rather than their character.......so a "good ol boy" type......is labeled a good guy.....hard charging /no nonsense type is labeled an A-Hole
local guy Wade Phillips is constantly referred to as a "GOOD guy"....because he's laid back......and doesn't scream at anybody.......................stupid
SO......where TF is the criticism of good ol boy....the "right reverend".......Houston Nutt.....?
the good Christian family man run out of Arkansas for banging local TV anchor Donna Bragg ?......with MANY shady notches on his belt ?....(remember exposed by a disgruntled fan.... requested phone records) summed up well in this SI article..... https://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/stewart_mandel/08/02/masoli-nutt/index.html
* personally have no issue with anything these boys do....as I don't know any millionaire boy scouts myself.....the hypocrites like this dude...do induce nausea

Nice list...and a tough call. I'd probably replace #'s 4 and 5 with Stoops and Patterson.

This might be Bios but where is Jim Tressell? I think his numbers prove that he is the best coach!!!! One title and 3 title games in 9 years....Only one season he has not made it to a BCS game....Not going to start on his D1 AA record!!

When??? Not at South Carolina if that's what you mean.
Yeah he did good at Florida...But Hell... I can coach Florida.
Take any person with decent knowledge about the game and they can win 7 games at Florida...
Steve Spurrier is WAAAYYY Overrated IMO.
I disagree. Florida was nothing before Spurrier got there. They had never won an SEC title, and were being dominated in the series vs Georgia. Spurrier changed the landscape of the SEC in the 90's.
Spurrier also did very well at Duke and won an ACC title there.

Boom, I think we can all agree that Spurrier has lost a little steam since he has been at South Carolina, but dude, the guys a freaking football genius. If he had remained in the college game, and stayed at Florida, or went to any of the other top notched programs, he would have had numerous NC trophies. I mean it's kind of like going through the motions, getting up every day, knowing you don't have the horses to compete, already having all of the money he could possibly spend. Saban, Meyer, Stoops, and anyone else on the list could not have done what they have done, if they were coaching the Gamecocks. Spurrier IMO is one of the best of all time. Thanks for posting , I have enjoyed reading them.

Chris Petersen...imo, he's the best. by no means am i a boise fan, just have alot of respect for everything this guy has done. nobody has worked harder in terms of getting his program on the national radar. his results speak for themselves.
and i have to have Beamer somewhere on the list.
really like Gary Patterson as well, probably not top 5 though.
