WTF....USC is picking up a lot of injuries..looks like Bradford may be ok, also mentions a few other players with various problems, and mentions frosh in lead at CB, same article contains another link to yesterday's scrimmage where USC offense was not impressive (possibly in combo with defense being pretty good)

Cincinnati's receiving corps just lost one potential key piece for 2010.

Kenbrell Thompkins, a junior college transfer and former Tennessee signee, had his request to be immediately eligible denied by the national letter of intent appeals committee. Tennessee refused to release Thompkins from his letter of intent after Lane Kiffin left the Volunteers to coach USC.

"Another surprise on the most recently released UT depth chart was senior defensive end Douglas Westbrook, a starter in all 12 games last season, listed fifth at his position. Westbrook has played in 37 games in the last four years.

Beckman also said that sophomore cornerback Daxton Swanson, who recently left the program, has gone back to his home state of Texas. Swanson started nine of 10 games last season.

“I don’t even know if he’s playing [football],” Beckman said. “He did a good job for us last year."

Rutgers is developing a cluster injury at WR. A couple of them look like they'll be ok by the time the season starts. Today, another one was carted off the field...never a good sign.

As long as Sanu can stay healthy, their unit will be fine

PISCATAWAY — Rutgers coach Greg Schiano admits there have been training camps where his team has been bit by the injury bug, but it’s rarely been this bad at a particular position group.

And it just figures that it had to be at a position as uncertain as wide receiver.

“”As I tell the guys — one man’s loss is another man’s opportunity and you have to step up and take advantage,” said Schiano, who saw his fourth starting-caliber wideout succumb to injury Monday, when J.T. Tartacoff was carted off with an apparent leg injury.

“”The hits just keep on coming,” deadpanned Schiano, whose team already lost Tim Wright to a season-ending knee injury, Quron Pratt to a month-long shoulder injury and Mark Harrison to a head injury in a two-week span this summer.

It may not matter how much sophomore quarterback Tom Savage develops if he doesn't have anyone to throw to during games.

True freshman J.T. Tartacoff, who made a quick impression in pre-season camp as a slot receiver, was carted away from today's rain-soaked practice session, making him the fourth key wide receiver to go down since camp began.

Coach Greg Schiano didn't know the severity of the inury -- "Something with his leg," he said -- and didn't have enough immediate information to speculate how long the former Montgomery High School standout would be sidelined.

Rutgers had already lost projected starter Tim Wright for the season to a knee injury, then saw his replacement, Mark Harrison, suffer a head injury in Saturday's scrimmage. Harrison, who also had a head injury last year, did not practice today and remains out indefinitely.

"We've got to do some tests," Schiano said of Harrison.

Also out -- and for at least three more weeks with a shoulder injury -- is Quron Pratt.

That leaves Mohamed Sanu at wide receiver and true freshman Jeremy Deering in the slot in the three-wide-out sets, but the other spot remains up for grabs.

"Not sure there," Schiano said when asked who was the leading candidate to fill the open wide receiver spot. Keith Stroud, Aaron Heyward and true freshmen Juwan Wynn and Brandon Coleman are the leading candidates left.

"If this is a long-term thing with Tartacoff we may have to pull someone over from the other side, which I don't want to do," he added said.

That might mean a return to wide receiver for cornerback Marcus Cooper.

"I'm confident we'll have the right guys in there," Savage said. "It's part of football. Guys get hurt."

In the first practice following the scrimmage, Schiano made some personnel moves -- none of which were major. Fullback Edmond Laryea is being tried at linebacker but will also be used on offense, defensive lineman Andre Civil was shifted to offensive tackle and tight end Fabian Ruiz was moved back to defensive end.

Moving Laryea seems to indicate that tight end Evan Lampert will be used more at fullback when the need arises, a role he often played last season. Schiano also said "Joe (Martinek) can play some fullback if we want him to."

Also, Kyle Sullivan, the back-up placekicker, appears to be leading the competition as the holder.

No changes in the tailback competition with Martinek, Kordell Young, Mason Robinson and true freshman Jordan Thomas heading the group.

"We're jockeying the backs around," Schiano said. "I don't know where they're going to end up."

TB Casey Turner (leg), Harrison and Pratt did not practice, with LB Manny Abreu (leg strain) and punter Teddy Dellaganna (hip flexor) returning on a limited basis.

Starting Center Wade Weibert missed Saturday's public scrimmage, but no definite news.  Sources only say injury not thought to be severe.

I'm hoping I can find a prop line on Sanu for the FIU game.  He's a badass and will get something like 12 for 180 w/ 2 TDs, even if they double or play zone.  But I really can't wait to watch him go up against Burney the following week.  That's going to be an island battle on par with Guadalcanal.

CORVALLIS, Ore. -- An Oregon State University offensive lineman has been dismissed from the team after police say they found him naked and intoxicated in a stranger's home and had to use stun guns to take him into custody.

Corvallis police say they received the call about a naked intruder early Sunday.

Responding officers ordered 19-year-old Tyler Patrick Thomas of Kalispell, Mont., to get on the ground, Lt. Tim Brewer said.

Thomas refused and instead dropped into a three-point stance like a football player and lunged at the officers, Brewer said. At that point, he said, two officers fired their stun guns.

Brewer said Thomas "absolutely was intoxicated" at the time.

Thomas was arrested on suspicion of criminal trespass, criminal mischief and resisting arrest. He was booked into the Benton County jail and later released.

A home phone listing for Thomas couldn't be found.

Oregon State coach Mike Riley dismissed Thomas from the team Monday, OSU athletics spokesman Steve Fenk said. Thomas redshirted during the Beavers' 2009 season.
