COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Weslye Saunders' future at South Carolina Gamecocks is unclear after the tight end was suspended by coach Steve Spurrier on Monday.

Spurrier said Saunders would be held out indefinitely for violating team rules -- and not for any potential findings from this summer's continuing NCAA inquiry centered around the 6-foot-6 senior. He was not at practice Monday night.

Brown, who was not in pads, will miss a few days with a bruised knee, but the concern that he had injured a knee ligament in Thursday's scrimmage proved unfounded. The magnetic-resonance imaging test performed Thursday night revealed there was no damage to his medial -collateral ligament, as originally suspected.

Brown, a junior receiver, led the Deacons last season with 61 catches.

"They said it was just a bone bruise and a slight sprain," Brown said. "So it's good news, and hopefully I'll be back out (practicing) soon.

"I'm just trying to get treatment as much as I can every day and get back as soon as I can

He was late to practice and lied to his coach.  Said he was being interviewed by the NCAA. 

Vandy's RB's are dropping...

Vanderbilt's 1st team RB Norman to have MRI today...2nd team Stacy already has a sprained medial collateral ligament (8/12) and RB Wesley Johnson is out with foot injury.

"Norman missed practice with a wrap on his swollen right knee, an injury that has caught everyone by surprise given his light workload and lack of contact in preseason camp."

"We have no clue if it was last spring or this fall, but all of a sudden it swelled up, so we're going to get it checked out good," Coach Robbie Caldwell said.

Air Force CB's hurt...could affect week 2 against BYU:

Cornerbacks Anthony Wright Jr. and Josh Hall are nursing injuries, and are in danger of missing at least Air Force’s season opener on Sept. 4.

“They’re going to be out for a while,” Falcons coach Troy Calhoun said.

Wright has injured ribs and Hall has an injured ankle. Wright is a starter and an all-Mountain West preseason selection, and Hall has been the Falcons’ third cornerback for most of camp. Falcons coach Troy Calhoun didn’t give a timetable on either player. He couldn’t say if either player has been ruled out of the opener.

Vandy top RB Warren Norman questionable for opener:

Vanderbilt running back/return specialist Warren Norman underwent arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Wednesday, and team officials said he's questionable for the Sept. 4 opener against Northwestern at Vanderbilt Stadium.

Norman, last season's SEC Freshman of the Year, led the Commodores with 783 yards rushing and returned three kickoffs for touchdowns, tying an SEC single-season record.

Norman's issue with his knee cropped up last week when he complained of swelling. He didn't go through Saturday's scrimmage and had the knee scoped Wednesday.

Vanderbilt has been decimated with injuries at the running back position. Sophomore Zac Stacy suffered a sprained MCL two weeks ago, but he was fully dressed and scheduled to return to practice on a limited basis Wednesday.

Also, redshirt freshman Wesley Tate has been sidelined with a foot injury all preseason, but worked out with trainers on the side earlier this week and was able to do the most he's done.

A press conference will be held later today at UNC regarding some academic issues that they self reported to the NCAA. Several players are involved and have already been moved to the scout team. Suspensions could be on the way.

Illinois loses starting safety Sanni

CHAMPAIGN, Ill. -- Illinois safety Supo Sanni is out for the season after tearing his right Achilles' tendon.

Coach Ron Zook says the junior was injured during practice Wednesday. Sanni, who was slated to start in the secondary for the Illini, was scheduled to have surgery on Thursday.

The 6-3, 220-pound Sanni, from Chicago Heights, will be able to redshirt this season and still have two years of eligibility left. He played in 11 games as a sophomore.
