One of the most rational, well thought-out posts I've seen on Covers in a long time.
The BCS was designed to match the best two teams in the national championship game. It's just that simple. It matters not is you won yor conference or not. That has nothing to do with it. And as you correctly point out, Alabama and LSU are far and away the best two teams in college football, and whoever is 3rd is not even close.
The real problem is that because the season didn't play out the way some people would have liked, they want to change the rules at the 11th hour to engender the outcome they desire.

Again, it's not the best 2 teams. It's the best "body of work." If it were truly the best 2 teams, USC would've been in the NC game back in 2002, 2007 and 2008.
And go read Boom Boom's thread as to why Okla State has a better "resume" than Alabama.
And, people should quit focusing on just the Iowa State loss. If it were all about losses, Houston would've been #2 just before they lost their CCG.

I'm not as convinced as everyone in Boom's thread that Okie St's body of work is that much more impressive than Alabama's.
That being said, even if it is, I want to see the 2 best teams play in this game. And that's LSU/Bama...not close. I don't care if we see another 9-6 game or it's 38-34; I just want to see a good game. Either of those teams would absolutely demolish Okie St.
Who wants to see a blowout in the final game of the year?

No it isn't
The BCS was formed in 1998 with the goal of matching the best two college teams in a championship game for the purpose of establishing a true national champion. If you find my words unpersuasive perhaps you'll find it more compelling if the BCS tells you themselves.

Personally I don't think Oklahoma State is the 3rd best team in the country much less the 2nd. I think Troy Calhoun from Air Force got it right on his ballot. His top 5 are 1. LSU, 2. Alabama, 3. Oregon, 4. Arkansas and 5. Oklahoma State.

The only time I discussed size was in comparing the two defenses. I said that Alabama's much bigger defense was much better equipped to stop a power running game than LSU was. That's pretty much how it played out in that Alabama's defense largely shut down the run between the tackles. LSU, however, wisely chose to attack Alabama on the perimeter instead, and that's where they found success.
I would have to go back and read my write-up to see if I said anything about LSU's defense wearing down. I may have. I know that I said something about LSU utilizing a 9-man rotation on the defensive line to keep them fresh.
I predicted before the game that LSU would score between 10-17 points, and that Alabama would score between 20-27 points. And although I said I thought Alabama would win and cover, I never said anything about Alabama covering easily. In fact, Alabama was NOT a "Best Bet" for me in the evening time slot. The only bet I made on the game was having Alabama in a 2-unit, 3-team parlay.
I'm just going by memory. But the point is, that's why they play the game.
I remember the 2002 BCS championship b/t Miami and Ohio State looked like a massive lopsided game w/ Miami pegged as a 14-point favorite. Look how that game turned out.

Yes, and look what LSU did to Oregon.
The only team in the country that can give them a decent game is Alabama ![]()

Yeah, I'd be backing the truck up to lay whatever Vegas put out on LSU over Okie St.
But as a fan of the game I'm glad we get the 2 best teams playing...regardless of if that's been the case in the past or not.

I said the same thing leading up to the decsion.
I would have been fine with Okie State playing LSU in the championship game because that would have would have given bettors two guaranteed bowl wins - LSU and whoever Alabama played. I would have "Max Bet" both games.
As I have said before, I'm a little disappointed that there are two SEC teams in the championship game because I won't be able to "Max Bet" the SEC team like I have the past 5 years. I have come to rely on that extra cash in early January.

Uh, yes it is.
Click the link for yourself. It simply says the two "top rated" teams will play each other.
Prior to the BCS, the #1 ranked team might be locked into one bowl and the #2 ranked team would be locked in another. For instance, back in '94 I think #1 Nebraska played in the Orange Bowl while #2 Penn State played in the Rose Bowl. That's all the BCS did.
That's worlds different from actually saying either of those teams truly are the #1 and #2 best teams in the country.
Just go back to 2009, when undefeated Alabama and undefeated Florida played for the SEC conference title. You could make a great case that either team was better than Texas, who needed a controversial call to beat a flawed Nebraska team.
But clearly, Texas was the #2 "rated" team in the country.

The number 1 and 2 rankings belong to the teams that are considered the best two teams in the country. You can always make endless arguments about why you disagree with what 2 teams occupy those rankings.
"It is designed to ensure that the two top-rated teams in the country meet in the national championship game"
It's self-explanatory. If you don't get it, I really don't know what else to tell you.

It's not rocket science.
You thought Bama has the best shot @ betting LSU. So, you think they should also be the #2 ranked team.
But that's not the case.
Hypothetically, if OSU beat Iowa State then they'd definitely be #2 "ranked" team ahead of Bama.
But you'd still think Bama would have a better shot at beating LSU.
So again, voters don't pick teams based on whether who's got the best chance to win the BCS championship game. They base it on who had the best "resume."

OSU got screwed here. Who wants to see a rematch. LSU has already beat Bama and will do so again.
LSU probably shouldn't have won the first meeting, and where the line sits right now suggests it's going to be difficult for them to do so again.

You said LSU vs Oklahoma State would "be a nightmare for the Big 12", did you not? My retort was what it was, and that's lets see the big bad SEC prove it one more time. LSU is the best team in the SEC. They won on the road at Alabama. Alabama had an advantage over a lot of other teams. You know why? Because unlike everyone else, they actually had control of their own destiny in a corrupt/bias system. And they lost. Was it the best lost of any 1 loss team in CFB? Absolutely. But to say that all Alabama had to do to ensure a spot in NOLA was to beat Arkansas at home and win at ultra offensively challenged Penn State is just downright laughable.
The SEC this year wasn't what it has been in the past. Outside of LSU, Alabama, Arkansas, and South Carolina. And no, Georiga doesn't count becuase they beat NO ONE to waltz their way to 10 wins. And the two teams they did play at home in South Carolina and Boise, they lost.
Alabama got into the title game based off prestige. That's pretty disappointing IMO.
