Mich St - Wisky discussion

When the line came out I suspected we would see a large % of people on Wisky. Honestly...whats not to like about Wisconsin?

Russell Wilson is a talented and athletic QB who is playing behind a huge offensive line and has a running game that rivals the best in football. 

The defense has been dominate giving up about 10 pts. per game.

Couple of things to consider:

Who has Wisconsin played? Other than Nebraska at home...they have played little teams they could dominate physically on both sides of the ball.

Michigan State hasn't played anyone either... they are 100% over-rated... however... they have shown a large improvement from earlier in the season. Gholston and Worthy and the MSU defensive line has the ability to put pressure on the QB and has the speed to trouble Wisky.

The biggest aspect of this game will be the play of Kirk Cousins. MSU has the talent on the outside to exploit Wisky. MSU has struggled to run the ball all season and will need him to make the throws he is capable of. Cousins is a better passer than Wilson...if the oline can give him some time he has the ability to make throws...the question will be can he get support from his run game?

Another thing to consider is this will be the 1st real road test for Wilson and the Badgers. Big difference between Northern Illinois and Spartan stadium at night on national tv. I don't think you really understand a team until they prove it on the road

The Spartans played Wisky in a similar spot last season and dominated the game for the most part. MSU isn't as good offensively and Wisky is... but I do think MSU is much better on the defensive side of the ball this season.

MSU has also beaten the Badgers 3 straight at home as dogs.... MSU typically plays well in night games at home.

I do think Wisky is a better team on paper...just remember games are not played on paper. I think Wisky wins this one but i'm not sure a blowout is going to happen.

After the Notre Dame game I would have said bet the farm on Wisky here... but MSU has shown improvement and I do think the defense is solid...not top 5 solid...but capable of giving teams fits...especially at home.

I suspect this line will rise over the week... should be a very public play. Will see how high it goess before making a decision either way.. good luck everyone

just like all the other top 10 teams each week that continue to cover the spread

all top 10 teams are a combined 76% against the spread this year or something crazy like that so the "public" factor really means nothing at all in my opinion

 

I like Sparty and their coach but I don't see this game being close at all, Wisconsin is simply too good in my humble opinion, Cousins will have to play a career game and I don't see the explosive offense from Sparty that will be necessary to hang here

I remember back in 04 when Sparty was in similar spot.. Wisky had flashy offense, dominating teams and ranked in the top 5..

Not saying that's going to happen here, but Badgers really have some issues on defense that MSU could exploit..

Not calling for MSU win here, but I've yet to see 1 person lean or take MSU.. typically not the case for 2 top 20 ranked teams, esp. since MSU dominated them just 1 year ago

Wahoo... when did math get a memory? I can flip a coin 100 times and it could come 70-30 either way...does this mean its a 70-30 prop?  76% this season means zero on the outcome of this game

 

Wisky has a better defense than MSU and will not be on the field very long so everytime the D comes back onto the field they'll be rested.

Wisky will be able to run on MSU and will wear them down and probably put up a TD on each poss. at the end of the 2nd and 3rd Qtrs.

MSU couldn't put up more than 2 TD's on Michigan threw 3 qtrs and scored there last 2 by mistakes on Michigan.

no no bro, you are misunderstanding me here, I'm saying the top teams are all covering each week and that is why I don't think it matters if the game is a "public" play or not

if you bet 10 teams every single week you would be like 76% ats on the season so fading the so called "public" really doesn't help you this year

exactly, it is the lack of offense that will get the Spartans in trouble in this game in my opinion

MSU also basically dominated Wisky last year at home.. yes Wilson is better than Tolzien, but Ball and White got shut down

There game was early in the year and I think Wiskys had plenty of time to improve plus Toon is a beast, in my opinion Wiskys gotten better and MSUs gotten worse.

MSU has an athletic defensive front... the way to beat size is either with more size or speed. Gholston and Worthy has both beasts on that line that have the speed to trouble the Wisky offensive front.

MSU dominated the game last season despite losing the turnover battle 3-0 ... MSU will not be intimidated in any way

The Spartan offense has been a disappointment thus far. Cousins hasn't been sharp all season. He is 100% the key to the game... he must play well to win.. .as I don't think MSU will dominate the line like they did last season.

Should be a hell of a game...

Spartan fan here.  I'm afraid to say it, but the win over Michigan was HUGE.  As a bettor we all know it's awful tough to put up that kind of effort two weeks in a row.

Hoping for a Sparty win, but I will likely sit this one out.

MSU has a decent shot at winning SU. Wisky ran it up on cupcakes at home in their 6 games but Wisky isn't UNLV or Indiana. I'd love to see them win and cover against MSU. But unfortunately, the top of the food chain belongs to pesky NFL-style, clock-chewing, boring-up-the-middle-rushing, uptight SEC teams.

No offense but it seems that the people who think MSU is going to win are blind.  I've seen both Wisconsin and MSU play and Wisky is far more superior.  Last time I checked MSU lost to week ass Notre Dame.  You're right that Wisky has not really been challenged but MSU won't be a challenge for Wiskym, it'll be like playing Nebraska all over but on the road.   Anyways GL people I'm going Wisky all the way.

As far as MSU winning, sure they have a shot. But this year's Wisconsin squad is far superior to last year's squad. Up to this point, MSU has played just as many cupcakes as Wisky. And they got absolutely drilled by Notre Dame. That game was not remotely close. Cousins would have to have a career game just to keep up. I am no Wisky fan, but i have seen each team play three times this season, and I think Wisky is far superior to MSU. Even though i am an SEC fan, I think Wisky is every bit as good as Alabama or LSU. Better on offense and not as good on defense. Good luck with your bet but i feel comfortable bettting Wisconsin here.

Comparing last years game to this is completely worthless.

2 words: Russell Wilson

If you think Cousins is a better passer than Wilson than I can't have a real conversation about this game.

While its true Wisky has played cupcakes, Sparty hasnt played a physical team on both sides of the ball against a team that can run AND pass and doesnt shoot themselves in the foot. The Badgers destroyed Nebraska, a team thats really close to Sparty imo. The Huskers are at least as good on defense, and Wilson carved them up like a Thanksgiving turkey.

The lines makers are having problems making these lines high enough on the top 10 teams and I think they missed the boat on this one again!!

Here are the facts:

- Cousins is mediocre, there's no doubt about.
- Neither teams have played anybody great yet ( I don't consider Neb or michigan great, plus they lost on the road)
- Wisconsin has the edge in the offense while Michigan State has the edge in defense
- This is the first legitimate road task for Wisconsin, and they have to play in the NIGHT.
- Wisconsin lost to Michigan State last year on the road, while accumulating only 292 total yards of offense and 165 yards of rushing offense. They lost by 10 even when Michigan State turned the ball over 3 times and Wisconsin didn't turn over the ball at all.
- Russell Wilson is going to be a huge factor in this game, with this incredible accuracy and dual threat capabilities. While cousins is mediocre.
- Wisconsin has been a covering machine, the books may have inflated the line so both sides will get some action ( public will be on wisconsin no doubt)

If the line goes any higher, I'll have to seriously consider Michigan State. They may not cover, but they can present some huge value.

This thread will be punch - counter punch the whole week.....and that's fine as everyone is entilted to make a case for their money. In this case, I tend to lean towards what sparty is selling however. I surely just can't toss money at a Badger team as more than a touchdown favorite on the road. Yeah, they're good and Russell Wilson has seemingly brought an element to Wisconsin football that never existed before, but I'm way more interested in seeing how a team that started the season with 6 consecutive home games reacts to it's first game away......against a formidable opponent....at night.

Intangibles are always more intriguing to me anyway. From a pure numbers perspective (already being Week 8), the oddsmakers aren't gonna throw any junk out there.

wisconsin alum here and I would definitely lean with the spartans in this game.  Michigan st is quietly becoming one of most underrated teams in the country.  Their defense has been just as good as LSU's

You lost me there. If you think that Michigan States D is as good as LSU's then you know nothing about college football.
