Agree with most in this thread. These incidents absolutely tarnish Paterno's legacy and I wouldn't be at all surprised if he retired at the end of this season. Based on his authority at Penn St., this situation could have been handled alot better and dare I say it, I am not sure he shouldnt have been indicted or at least been  another figure targeted in this investigation.

Paterno, his athletic director and the school's vice president all knew something horrible occurred involving former defensive coordinator Jerry Sandusky, and they all let it slide. For a decade.

Why? The way it smells from here: The alleged predator was a beloved member of their beloved football program. Penn State's reputation would be dealt a horrible blow. Denial was the best option.

The silence allowed the alleged serial rapist of young boys to continue doing his bad stuff, right there at Penn State, for another nine-plus years. Sandusky had an office in the athletic building. In 2007, he brought a young boy to a Penn State football practice.

Paterno wants us to believe that an assistant coach came to him in 2002 and told of seeing unspecified "inappropriate conduct" (Paterno's words) between Sandusky and a young boy in the team's shower room.

Apparently Paterno did not ask the assistant, "Exactly what did you see?" What responsible person would not ask that question?

For not asking that question back in 2002, Paterno should be fired today.

It is  beyond my  comprehension to  imagine that nobody called

Sandusky out.  

 Plausible deniability ??? Did they  really just  look past it and

convince themselves that nothing bad was happening with Sandusky and all these  kids hanging around him.  I  know its cool to bring a kid to the  ball game and help some  under priviledged kids and all, but there had to be  some signs.... But finally, when he is  caught in the act, it is hard to understand  how men of character (even  degenrate gamblers) could stand by and not call him out.  I think , if  PennSt had acted responsibly and  called Sandusky out at  first  whiff,  the institution and Paterno would not have been tainted,  only that  a  sick fuck could  live amongst us. 

 Now  Paterno, grad assist, Ath Dir, Finance Dir, campus police, University Pres  look like  the  sick  fucks. where was this  guys  wife anyway?

This press conference today at 12:30 will be very telling. How Penn St can release a statement saying JoePa will only answer football questions is beyond comprehension. I could give a shit that it is Senior Day this weekend. The only way JoePa could save face for me at this point is if he tenders his resignation today. As more details come out about this story, I want to throw up. That the DA offices closed this case years ago when the first 2 boys came forward is pathetic and they have serious questions to answer too. I feel for all of the victims in this story. Serious abuse of authority at what was a pristine institution for all time. JoePa, how could you let this happen?
