I was too young to appreciate Lott's time at USC, so I didn't list him. But if he was anything in college like he was in the pros, can't argue with that.

There's so many great backs, it's really like picking drunk broads at Spring Break. They'll all get the job done, you just happen to feel a little more attached to that special one. Faulk and Bo were GREAT backs (as were Dayne and Williams), I just prefer Phillips as my "man among boys" power back and Sanders as my "did he just do that?" back.
Menace, while I'm impressed that a guy with a Buckeye avatar brought up Woodson, I've got to disagree with you. I always thought he was overrated as a man corner and made a lot of plays in Michigan's zone scheme because the talent around him allowed him to roam and gamble. Definitely a great player, but if we're splitting hairs, I can't put him on my team (plus, I think someone should allert the authorities that he is holding Peyton Manning's Heisman).

Emmitt? You have got to be kidding me. I'm a big UF fan from way back (John Reeves era) and no way Emmitt comes close. Much better as a pro, and still not an elite back at that, IMO. Are you completely disregarding his senior year?
I ain't buying Jim Kelly either (again, loved him as a pro) but I'll let someone else take issue with that.

Damn i scrolled all the way down, looking forward to being the only one to pick hershel walker, and then i see straightshooter beat me too it, so its agreed, its Hershel, 100%, barry was a better pro to be honest, but Archie is a close second..........

well for me thats easy, despite being a long time gator fan, since emmitt was there, it has to be either of the two years that ken dorsey was the quarterback...........let me count the waves,
Andre Johnson, Antrel Rolle, Brandon Meriweather, Brock Berline, Thomas Carroll, DJ Williams, Frank Gore, Devin Hester, Jason Geathers, Vilma, Kellen Winslow, Mcgahee, Sinorice Moss, Roscoe Parrish, Sean Taylor, Vince Wilfork, and Dorsey
and the team had just lost Clinton portis to the draft, but he was on the 2001 team, does that make the '01 team the best and not this one, remember, the Canes lost to OSU in the Fiesto bowl on a nasty shot by Mike Doss to willis, could have used portis to have stuck around for another year huh, they he would have went down inside of just being another box washington redskins player
GL to all, 13-7 this week, hammer the NFL, not great on CFB, but I have some nice early leans that I might have to get where they stand now, I'll post somewhere about them soon, peace hommies

Let's think about what Herschel's accomplishments for a minute.
Bottom line, Herschel was a damn hoss. He was probably too good for his own good, and that's why he just doesn't tend to get the respect he deserves (because of the whole USFL fiasco, and subsequent bad press).

Let's think about what Herschel's accomplishments for a minute.
- In an era where freshmen had literally just been granted the opportunity to play at all on the varsity teams, Herschel finished 3rd in the Heisman trophy balloting in his freshman year, and 2nd his sophomore year.
- Herschel won the Heisman as a Junior, and would have likely won it as a senior, as well, if he'd stayed his senior year
- Herschel rushed for over 1,600 yards as a freshman, and he didn't play 11 quarters of that year due to either injury or being benched by Vince Dooley during a blowout.
- Herschel was the first football player to go pro after his junior year, jumping to the USFL because of all the
he was promised. - If Herschel had stayed for his senior year and rushed for his average per-game rushing total of 159 yards of the previous 3 years, he would have had a career total of over 7,000 rushing yards, which would still be the all-time record. As it is, his career totals from 3 years are still good for 6th place all-time. (All of the top 5 places are taken by players with 4 years of numbers.)
