I didnt know him until he was out of college and had only played in a couple of movies, but I used to play pool and drink beer at the hangout, "The Rusty Nail", and I used to play him in pool for 100 a game. He was cocky, but kool. Although, I was pretty cocky myself. If you have seen that movie with Cruise and Paul Newman, I cant remeber the name of movie right now, but anyway Matt would spin his pool stick like Cruise did . I only remember losing one game, but it was hard to play bc the women were all around fawning over him. Anyway, that was back in 1989, so I am sure he doesnt even remember me, and he sure has made something of himself as an actor from this small town of 100k.

I had a great day yesterday, lost 2 huge parlays by .5 on Nevada, but hit the three teamers bc I bought down to 6.5, but moving on. New day and a new dollar! I am leaning Oregon, especially 1st half, b4 Auburn adjusts at halftime, but tuff one 4 me to cap. Im just playing my average plays bc if this were just another day with plenty of games I wouldnt touch it! I was hoping you had this one picked and hoping you were thinking as I! BOL 2nite and have a great day VAN!

    Hi Pgram -

My avatar is Don Draper from a show called Mad Men on AMC.  It is my favorite show as of late, and I love the character.  I guess he kinda looks like Matthew McConahey, but its not him.  That guy is super annoying and douchey.

    GL tonight.

also, not sure if you do college bball but tonight notre dame is on the road against marquette i believe and marquette is favored by 3 even though ND is ranked and they are not...im leaning marquette bc usually when an unranked team is favored against a ranked team, especially at home, its usually for a reason....any truth or ideas to that??

    thanks man

My take is that the key to this total is the number of plays that will be run tonight.  Unless there is a major coaching ideal shift for strategy tonight, there will be possibly 140-150 plays run, and with the prolific offenses running them, I just think the over is probably a good idea.  I certainly cant make a case for the under.

I dont know college hoops from college cricket.  Havent watched a game since about 2005.

In fact, they had Seahawks +4.5 (-105) vs the Rams the last night of the regular season when they were +3.5 (-120) everywhere else. I was able to take the +4.5 (-105) with -4.5 (+130) on matchbook to lock in a quick profit. If you haven't used betus before, check them out. They don't have a great rating but I've gotten my payouts in a reasonable time frame and as you can see they are notoriously horrible/slow with dog lines.

I took 10 units on Oregon with the intent of buying some back. the -3 currently sits at +130 on matchbook so I'm currently deciding how to play this, but GL with Oregon tonight.

For a number of reasons I cant / wont use Betus.  I guess they dont take kindly to people betting limits (even though they are small) on every bad dog line they post.  Add to it their payment processing which is a nightmare, and they are absolutely off of my list of possible books (and I am off of theirs).

I got Oregon at +3 too, and some at +2.5, and some ML.  I posted the ML here because I think at the current line options, the ML presents the best choice.

I gotta check this place out.

From what I hear, they are old school take any comers type of place, with live in game wagering.

Anyone been there or has any comments?

They take HUGE action. I have seen them accept 30k bets in NFL  without blinking. Rumor has it the poker players Ivey and Brunson bet real large on NFL there.

Guy who built it lost his ass because of the economy tanking but the place is great.

That is great to hear, hopefully it catches on.....

It sounds perfect except for full retail priced juice, but more competition might mean reduced juice.

The problem I always have is that my handicapping and actual bets that go until the end of the game are only a percentage of how I make money.  I like to call it multiple income streams, or diversification.  I make money buying and selling lines, betting live lines, and arbitrage situations.  So a lot of times a bet I have on a Monday never goes to post time (today I bet the Jets +3 at -102 and sold it at -3 +125).   This is a business for me, and any business with only one client is vulnerable, you need diversification.  When my capping is bad, my line speculation might be good, or vice versa.

For instance, the playoff games this weekend.  5 years ago I bet every playoff game, but I do sense something has changed in me (probably for the worse) in that I just dont seem to have the stomach for it anymore. If I dont feel like I have a clear edge in a game, the consequences of self hatred and buyers remorse seem to grow more and more as the years go on.

Part of the reason is that the percentage of effort I put in to buying and selling positions has grown in relation to my handicapping wagers - which has shrunk. I dont know where this is going, but I can tell you that there are lots of days I feel like I have had enough and should call it a day until I can have Neteller and every book at my fingertips like the early 2000's. The cost and risk of doing business these days is so high, sometimes I just woner if it is worth it - and I keep getting squeezed on costs to the point that so much of my income goes to just keeping the business going. So if I make some dumb playoff bets - well - now you can see why I get crazy and beat myself up - there isnt much room for error anymore these days.

If I was as smart as I am today back in the early 2000's, it would have been a perfect situation - and I hope one day it will be like that again. I used to be able to transfer 50K on neteller from my bank account to any of 20 books to hit a line in less than a minute, and I used to transfer a winning wager back to my bank account in less than 5 minutes with virtually no cost or risk. Now I meet guys in parking lots with brown bags, and pay through the nose for wires or checks that might bounce, and most importantly lose out on opportunities because I have money at one book and not the right one at the right time. I wonder if I just dont have the stomach for this anymore.

The guys you mention in your post have the right idea.  They have multiple income streams too.  If they actually do bet on the games they pick, it is funded by the income they generate from writing books or selling picks.  Kind of like the poker players too - they are sponsored - and rarely pay for tournament entry fees - multiple income streams.  I have often thought about writing a book, mostly because I think it would help people, not so much that I would become a NYT best seller on the back of a sports gambling book.  Lets face it, the sports gambling world is small, then cut that in to people who want to hear how to take all of the fun out of it by treating it like a business, and you have a small slice of the public left.  Very few people doing this really want to make money, they might say they do, but the action is the big draw.

    Holy shit.

I have forgotten the amount of useless threads on covers for a big event.

Threads you will see before the game tonight (all in all capital letters, with lots of punctuation):

    Covers Bloodbath - Oregon
    Covers Bloodbath - Auburn
If Auburn doesnt win, I will never post again
If Oregon doesnt win, I will never post again
Auburn / Oregon wins by 20+!
If you bet Auburn / Oregon, you are a moron!
Vegas wants you to bet Auburn / Oregon
    Public is all over Oregon
    Public is all over Auburn
Sharps are all over Auburn / Oregon
Line move means bet on Auburn / Oregon
Biggest play of the year on Auburn / Oregon
Im all in on Auburn / Oregon
No need to overanalyze, Auburn / Oregon is the way to go
Why isnt Auburn / Oregon favored by more?
Dont be a sucker, bet Auburn / Oregon

great article in Wired magazine this fall, run by the outfit that lost most of it's employees on 9-11, Cantor Fitzgerald.  lots of details on that article, sorry no linky, i read the mag the old fashioned way.  Also, it struck me that there might be be some good oportunites in live betting, as most situations are based on historical averages of teams/players/situations, and aren't set up as well to take into account some variables that are difficult to measure with stats.
