He has hit plenty of deep passes... Calvin Ridley and Jeudy are deep threats.

Well. -- I guess it is a good question. Teams and fans left out will point out what they think a team lacks since they are on the outside looking in.
I think it is hard to argue against Alabama. They were #1 until they lost Auburn.
Auburn lost in the SEC Championships
So people say, Oh Bama lost to a 3 loss team.
Ohio State lost by 31 to a 5 loss team.
Wisconsin only loss to Ohio State who people think should be in.
What about USC? No cupcakes on schedule. Beat up bad on road by ranked ND team.
Undefeated team from little conference ignored. (Boise TCU UCF)
I know that Alabama and Clemson beat Michigan State and Ohio State 38-0 and 31-0 the last 2 years in the Playoffs.
Maybe a conference getting outscored 69-0 brings them down a notch.

Please- the last thing teams say they need to stop when playing Bama is the deep threat- Ridley is good no doubt but if you stop the Bama running game and keep Hurts from running around, then chances are you can win the game- Hurts running ability has allowed him to hit some deep passes- he keeps plays going after they have broken down- it will be a good game but if you can't see that this Alabama team isn't as good as the last couple of years then nothing anyone says can help you- Alabama is beatable as Auburn has proved- that wasn't a fluke win- they outplayed Bama the whole game- but we will see what happens in a few weeks

Right now, Alabama has the best defense in the nation (bullcookies!!), one of the best defensive players in the nation in Minka Fitzpatrick, a QB who just wins ( not the big game....0-2 right now in a big game!!), and has been to the National Championship, and has big game come from behind experience. Not to mention 3 of the best running backs in the nation as well.
Now, will Daboll utilize those RBs this time like he did not do against Auburn? We will see...
Will Pruitt all out blitz on 3rd and long? We will see, but I doubt it seeing as how for the first time this season we will have all our LBs healthy.
I predict a close game with Clemson, but Alabama pulling away convincingly in the 4th.

Glad to see you back on for bowls.
I gotta say, I disagree with you on Alabama.
If the CFP were just going to select the 4 most deserving teams, then their one and only poll would be the one we saw Sunday.
Unlike last year, the poll should use the previous week's poll as a starting point for the next poll.
I think they did a better job of that this year.
NeXt to last CFP poll(next game result)(reasonable final ranking):
1.Clemson(Pounded Miami)(1)
2. Auburn(lost badly to UGA)(6-8)
3. Oklahoma(Pounded TCU)(2)
4.Wisconsin(lost to OSU)(6-9)
5. Alabama (dnp)(4-5)
6. UGA(Pounded Auburn)(2-3)
7. Miami(lost badly to Clemson)(10+)
8.Ohio St.(beat Wisconsin)(4-5)
Clemson and Oklahoma took care of business.
UGA stepped up and beat the #2 team, so they are in.
That leaves one spot. The choice is move Ohio St up from 8 to 4, or move Alabama up from 5 to 4.
For me, it's all about 2 losses, on horrifically, for OSU.
Alabama didn't get to play UGA due to the idiotic divisions within conferences.
Being a Clemson fan, you would have to agree that the #2 team from the ACC Atlantic division is almost always stronger than the winner of the Coastal division.
Regardless of what Auburn and USC fans think, it really came down to Alabama or OSU.
As much as everyone has blasted Alabama's weak schedule, OSU didn't exactly play a murders row of opponents.
They let Oklahoma spank them by 15 in their building.
They lost by 31 at Iowa St!
Alabama lost at Auburn, but played them better than UGA did the first time.
As we saw with Clemson, the CFP is more lenient on close road losses. However, you can't lose at home by 15 and get steam rolled by Iowa in the same season, and still expect to be considered a top 4 team.
Most folks, including Vegas knew Wisky was overrated. Therefore, a close win wasn't going to result in a 4 spot jump.
Can someone please show me where the CFP said winners of power 5 conferences are in? Everyone says it like it was listed in the bylaws. I don't recall ever reading that.
Regardless, this is still soooo much better than the BCS.
Did previous performances by OSU factor into the discussion? Wouldn't be hard to believe, but that won't ever be said.

A few years ago, someone here organized a bowl picking contest. I dont remember who did it, but I'm pretty sure bklowoutgm and skanless were in it. we should do that. I think it was based on confidence values on each game.

Auburn has by far the best argument. Auburn is 2-2 against playoff teams; UGA is 1-1; Bama is 0-1.
Clemson is 1-0 (having beat Auburn), by the way, and Oklahoma didn't face a playoff team.
Auburn is better than Bama this year, and the Committee says it is picking the best 4 teams, so Auburn should be in, and Alabama should be out.

Boom.
1st good to see you back. Been a big fan of your for a long time. You and wahoo. Are the my 1st choice to read when ever had a chance to get on line. Learn so much from you guys. Anyway I use to live in Spartanburg not to fat from Clemson, just move away tho. I also know Clemson a little bit. You are right. We have the best D. Especially on big game, when we beat the crap out of any top 10 team in the nation.I don’t think many people agree to that. 2nd .. they had ALA in the playoffs is very simple but no one will see, ITS ALL ABOUT THE MONEY. To Vegas it will draw a lot more money if ALA are in. 3rd , we were all dogs in dose 5 games because no one believes we can win, PUBLIC will always think SEC.. OKL.. OHO ST.. ALA.. all big boys and we’re not . Boys let me tell you, soon they will find out who’s the BIG boys are.

That is because we could not stop the run, because we were missing a lot of LBs, and Clemson does not have a back as dynamic as Kerryon, we saw how bad Auburn sucked against Georgia when he was not 100%, their entire offense revolves around him. For the first time this season, ALL our LBs will be healthy and that spells trouble for the Clemson offense.
I will admit that in order for the deep threat to work, we have to have success running and hit play action, which is a question mark with Clermson's defense.
I do think it will be a close game, but I do not see anywhere Clemson has the edge in this game, and if I did I would not have bet on Bama.

Great insight as always. From my perspective, only 3 teams deserved in as neither Alabama nor OSU deserved in. If I was on committee probably would have taken CFU just to make point. Best answer would be to reduce power 5 to 4 and allow those conferences to pick rep. Good luck w bowl picks
