Covid protections, I'm sure they ask for more prior to the start of next season .

Yeah , did the Wildcats get shafted . They start out at Penn St. , then follow with Wisconsin

before they get Mich. St. Weeks 1 & 2 we'll get a chance to see what they're made of.

Yeah Wise I don't think they even need to ask for anything beyond covid right now if my goal is to eventually cut the 'player revenue' deal .... Right now I'd just try to wiggle into some negotiating role and look like I'm getting them an extra good covid deal and maybe get other conferences on board my unity train... Then hope I look like a hero and have the chops and the rolodex to go for the jugular next year.... Seems its a little late in the game to get greedy and very easy for the BIG-10 to just do everything on the list and tell them to take a hike... which they should do regardless whenever the unity lawyers show up and try to wiggle themselves in a meeting .. 

Bridge , The PAC 12 officials have scheduled a talk with the Unity group for

this afternoon . That gets their foot in the door , let's see if the Unity group

is smart enough to temper their demands so they can get a " W " on the

board and also gain some credibility.

Yeah the unity lawyer is doing the wall street 'life comes down to a few moments' mirror talk before that one lol... we'll see I think coming out with some massive transformation change put the PAC Unity folks in a tricky spot, very easy for PAC to say were not gunna work with you hucksters and just do the 'change' dance without them .. if they really got 100 players really ready to boycott their scholarship away then put that to the test and see if their coach can talk some sense into them ...or ... just gotta say goodbye ... BIG Unity seemed like a much better 'come to the table' spot and man they are definitely hoping PAC Unity doesn't set the tone by getting 86'd before they get their shot ...  

Add another to the list :   Miami ( F ) DE  Gregory Rousseau  has chosen to opt out

for the 2020 season. He is considered as a first round selection in the 2021 NFL draft.

Penn State LB Micah Parsons joins this list as well.

Ooooooo, losing Parsons a BIG loss for the Lions! That guy a big leader on "D"!!

College players have very little leverage compared to pros. 

1) This is the wrong year to threaten to quit, because most colleges are already on the fence about having a season

2) Most fans of college football are fans for a reason, and that reason has nothing to do with the quality of play unlike the NFL.  Let's say it is a normal, non-COVID year, and all the scholarship athletes go on strike and colleges are forced to make teams out of walk-ons.  Here are the different sets of fans:

      A) Grew up as fan of team, alumni of school, or enrolled at school: if walkons play, still going to be fans, still going to tailgate. 

      B) Gamblers:  as long as there are lines, gamblers will bet on games and will watch

      C) Casual fan: viewership might be down a little, but you never know, the novelty of 11 "Rudies" on the field might be compelling.

3) Most NFL players that go on strike have already made money, and they get paid from a strike fund, and they can expect the strike to be over in a year. College players go on strike, worst case scenario is they lose their scholarship, and they have nothing. No NFL/XFL team touches them because they are troublemakers. 

The only thing they have in their favor is optics, it wouldn't look good for the NCAA to take away their scholarships, etc,

This is really getting interesting . Add to the List :  Purdue WR Rondale Moore has opted

out of the 2020 season to prepare for the NFL draft.

These opt outs WILL materially adversely impact production of their respective

teams. This + Covid potential around game day could be problematic.

Be careful what price you pay for production risk as well as potential Covid risk.

Youth has to learn a few things about life as they grow into adulthood and the

challenges they will experience in the adult working world. One of those lessons

they are learning now is that insubordination has it's consequences. Players got kicked

off of the team at WAZZU because they told Rolovich that they did not want to

practice or play. There are , and should be consequences for players who choose

not to honor their commitment to the program . they have yet to fully understand

just what those consequences actually look like.

FWIW , The players who have chosen to " opt out " so far are projected to go in the

first round in the 2020 NFL draft.For them this is strictly a business decision and I

understand their reasoning. I believe there will be more potential first rounders

that will also opt out prior to the start of the season for similar reasons.

I also believe that this strategy will also filter down to second and third rounders

and other wannabes as well before the start of play .

health and safety concerns.

Maryland Coach Mike Locksley told reporters today that 6 Maryland football

players have opted out of the 2020 Football season. Players include starting

LG Austin Fontaine , and backup QB  Josh Jackson. The rest are reserve

players.

Very true, even for MAC teams, many people close to the team think the best player on the team is a 1st round pick, and there are 2 or 3 more top 4 round picks for any given year.  For every Khalil Mack, there are a ton of Khalil Hodges (productive LB but undrafted and not even a UFA) who thought he was a lock for the NFL.

Yep, college players have more leverage than ever....and may get a few changes sure.....BUT the NFL operates on 1930 principles, and somehow does whatever they want, literally a buncha of fat / old white guys sitting around smoking ceegars ....running a 'non-profit' that earns billions with a CEO making 40 million/year or so ha >> mess with our brand, better be really good (see Tyreek Hill) ...if not, you will get punished (see Ray Rice / CK).

North Carolina has announced that 3 players are choosing to " opt out " of the

2020 football season . The 3 ( all DB's ) are DJ Ford , Bryce Watts , and also

Javon terry. Watts ( a starter at corner ) and the others create a significant

depth problem for the Heels defensive secondary.
