cool Agreed!peace_5  They host their toughest challenge in their first game!  If they can get by the G+ rated IRISH - and with only 4 ACC road games, while avoiding Clemson - they have a real shot a likely 10 - 2 or even 11 - 1 reg season conference record!  Depending on avoiding key injuries of course....

 How do you have Penn Sate #1??  I'll preface this by saying I'm from the Suburbs of Philly, I have a ton of friends that went there and/or there kids now go there including my son who will be a Senior.  With that being said, once again this team plays ABSOLUTEY NOBODY until November 1st.  There preseason schedule is a Joke and each game of course is in Happy Valley 

Oh, that November 1st game happens to be in Columbus against The Ohio State University that OWNS James Franklin (Terrible game day coach).  When was the last time PSU beat OSU???  When has James Franklin beat a Top 5 Team???  Well, of course they rarely play Top 5 teams, but when they do they lose.

 

So again without going back thru how you come up with your ratings...Penn State #1  based on what

I hear you bro, you sound like all my friends scattered throughout Pennsylvania… It’s tough to believe after all PSU fans have gone through that this could actually happen. Win the Big 10 and make another run at the final 4.  Franklin stinks, his coordinators are top shelf however an_shake and much like last years Buckeyes…OC and DC will be deciding Penn states fate and I think the top combo in the country. Listening to old boy Jim Knowles speak wisdom reminds me of the legend Phil Jackson. Knowles controls the space around him with confidence and swagger and the team responds. This is his dream job as a Philly native and his 4-2-5 defensive scheme is devestating for an offense to face.

 I hear you JJ, but they had a Cake Walk last year and the easiest path once the CFP started until of course they played a "Real Team"  That would be Notre Dame.  Bottom line James did what James does LOST got out coached again.  I saw Oregon on the early schedule but It's in Happy Valley (I will be at that game)  It will probably be "White Out Night".  Plus Penn State will not have left 107K Beaver Stadium. 

All I'm saying is James Franklin is the HC, Ohio State Owns Penn State and last I checked Ohio St are defending Natty Champs.  I also believe they will pay another $20 mil just like last year to get back to the CF Championship Game   

Give me Notre Dame over Penn State all day long.  I debate this on the daily with my son and his friends and my friends who believe CFB was created in Happy Valley.  I remind them it Originated in South Bend an_razz clover

cool Here is much of my reasoning.

Although OSU won the title by getting hot in the playoffs, they weren't even the best team in their conference.....Oregon, Penn St, and Indiana were ahead of them in BIG TEN

Key numbers last year, in BIG TEN:

1. ORE  9 - 0  +165 net ypg, achieved from 16 returning starters with QB
2. PSU  8 - 1 +130 net ypg, achieved from only 13 returning starters with QB
3. INDY 8 - 1 +140 net ypg, achieved from 18 returning starters with QB
4. OSU  7 - 2 +129 net ypg, achieved from 16 returning starters with QB


This year:

ORE drops from 16 returning starters 14, and lose their top ranked QB!
INDY drops from 18 returning starters 16, and lose their starting QB!
OSU PLUNGES from 16 returning starters to just 9, and lose their starting QB!
PSU improves from 13 returning starters to 15 starters, with one of the top QBs in the nation!!


an_police  Buckeyes, with a new, far less experienced QB and only 3 returners on defense, plus losing a whopping 15 draft choices, plus losing their championship building DC, Ohio St. is not expected to be as good this year as last (7 - 2 in BIG TEN)

cool But Penn State has no such deficiencies! They increase the number of returning starters that achieved 8 - 1 in conference from 13 to 15, have arguably one of the top 5 QBs in the nation, with  one of the top 5 run-game units in the nation, with 4 OL returning from a strong unit already, backed by loads of talent *AND* have arguably one of the TOP 5 BEST defenses in the nation while adding the championship building DC from Ohio St!! win

 

cool They are the ONLY team among the top 4 BIG TEN last yr that is primed for improvement! win
Their toughest game will be Sept 27 against the DUCKS - who were the best team in the BIG TEN last yr, defeated Ohio State and return 14 starters this yr compared to OSU only returning 9 and must also start a new, inexperienced QB after losing Will Howard to the draft.  OSU is in a coin-flipper to open the season against the preseason #1 ranked Longhorns - who are also better than the Buckeyes.

cool Ratings to end last yr; result to begin this yr:

#1  OSU ....... less 7 starters, replace QB!! and defense is weaker with only 3 starters!
#2  IRISH ..... less 1 starter and replaces FINE dual-threat QB!! with inexperienced freshman
#3  Oregon.... less 2 starters and must replace EXCELLENT QB!
#4  Texas ..... less 2 starters, must replace QB and OL is weaker (losing 4 starters)
#5  Penn St... GAINS 2 more starters!, *solid* at every position and primed for improvement!

 

As always, key injuries to any team could reverse their fortunes.

 Thanks for the reply and sharing how you come to the conclusion Penn State is #1.  I seem to hear this EVERY YEAR but when it comes to actually playing say OHIO STATE they lose FACT 

Real quick, where did Ohio State play Oregon last year? Right in Eugene and lost by 1 point.  Penn State did not play Oregon at all anywhere last year.  This team never plays anyone Pre Season (Look at the garbage coming into Beaver Stadium the 1st 3 weeks).  Ohio State right out of the gate plays Texas. So Penn Sate really does not play anyone and does not go on the road until October new_laugh_sweat      Oregon like I said 7:30 pm White Out Game.  

James Franklin 0 -10 against Ohio State   That QB I'm not impressed with   The bottom line, They never ever ever respond in a BIG SPOT  Ever Under James Franklin and until that happens you can throw out this stat and that stat and......They are not the #1 or #2 or #3 team going into this season.

Notre Dame opens at Miami, Ohio State opens with Texas, Texas opens against Ohio State on and on Penn State play nobody for a month and if things are Real Tight at the End that team that HC will lose   I'm basing everything I say here on a LARGE SAMPLE SIZE 

 

Ok, good stuff looking forward to finally getting Football back!!!  Could not come soon enough
