Disagree 110%.  With all the upsets that have happened throughout the year and the sure upsets that will happen throughout the tournament, I would want my team playing in one gear only, from start to finish. It's the one way to ensure that even if we did lose, it wasn't because we let off the pedal like so many top tier teams do....and then sit there in awe afterwards at how they could have let it get away from them.  In saying that, I would've probably put in all reserves....but I'd be telling them as well that I want to see intensity, focus, etc etc. 

Save the empathy for the reg season...now is the time of year you want your players in one mindframe from tip to finish...just my opinion...

So when should the "sportsmanship" come in? When up 15 with 5 minutes left, call off the dogs? Then what, 2 quick 3's and it's a 9 point game, this point is invalid and foolish because you simply took the wrong side.

Definitely not classy and poor sportsmanship, but after Saturday he'll be at home.  Michigan has guards to handle the press..just my opinion anyway.

Classy is not a word that pops to mind for about 75% of college coaches. Most do not get to where they are by being classy - they get there by winning. And they will do whatever is necessary to win, classy or not.

However.

When you have to play a game in less the 48 hours against a higher seed, having your starters in the game when up by 50 points and less than 10 minutes to play is probably the stupidest coaching move of the day, maybe the week.

IF a kid had turned an ankle, took a fall I would hope Smart would have been fired on the spot. As it is I can only hope a kid sustained a minor injury that affects his play Saturday.

He probably still should be when they lose to Michigan.

I did not bet the whole  game. I did bet the Zips at the half , not knowing the VCU coach is an a s s hole.  I wrongly figured they would let up some. I own it. It was a bad bet and shows I do not watch enough college ball.

I'm all about sportsmanship, but this is the NCAA tournament and Smart wants his guys to stay sharp for next game. This VCU press is fun to watch, if this team can continue to stay sharp on the defensive end, we may see another big run from this team. You don't change your style of play. VCU plays a press, that's there defensive style, you can't simply tell them to stop playing their game because they're up big.

Michigan will send them packing tomorrow. U of M best assist to turnover ratio in the country...

I did not see the game, that said, although a small part of me would be happy to see the wolverines run it up.
The rule would still apply, not as much for the cosch(got what he deserved) but for his players who were just following orders.
