My boys travel to Miami Wednesday in desperate need of a win. They played ok the other night and unfortunately, got the best game UNC could play. That seems to be what we get out of everyone we play this season but it is what it is. Even with them playing great, the Terps had a chance at the cover late and just could not get over the top. Played the Terps 2nd half and hit that.
On to Miami where the Terps play a Miami team focused on playing spoiler. Focused might not be the best word to describe a Miami team that has struggled to close out close games all season, thus the shitty conference record. This is a team that could easily have a much better record if only they could focus and finish. JWill had another monster game at UNC as did the freshman phenom Stoglin. Both were real badasses and I expect that to continue tomorrow night. Stogs just seems to see nothing that scares him and you can tell he is far more comfortable now than even 10 games ago. The problem for the Terps beyond that is that only Dino is contributing on a regular basis. Tucker is a fucking bust this season, Mosely is close to a bust and Bowie is half assed too most times. If even ONE of them showed consistency and could be counted on, we'd be much better off.
This game concerns me. Miami is better than their record. The fact that we have to win doesn't mean we will. They rebound pretty well but worse yet, they shoot the 3 ball ALOT and make ALOT of them. Now if they are not hitting, they are easy to beat but I am sure they will shoot 200% tomorrow night. They do turn the ball over alot so I think Gary will press them alot. The Canes have three guys who can score consistently. The Terps have the talent to win this one but who knows if they can compose themselves enough to put it all together on the road. Luckily, the crowd at Miami games is minimal so it won't be like playing at UNC.
I am going to layoff a side as I could see this go either way. I'll play the over because:
1) Terps shoot the ball well and have not played very good D of late. Miami should see their fair share of open shots. I am expecting the Canes to hit 8+ long balls.
2) Terps are just more naturally comfortable playing up tempo and I see them trying to create alot of turnovers for easy baskets. Canes turnover margin is not good this season. This desire to press and trap will also lead to giving some easy baskets for the Terps too.
3) This game will be tight so scoring should be at a premium late. If the score is close to the total, their should be fouling to help push it over (if needed). Terps shooting FT's MUCH better and Miami shoots 70+ from the FT line.

Reggie Johnson is going to present a very interesting challenge for JWill. He's bigger than JWill as he weighs over 300 pounds. The Canes don't have too many other answers inside so I expect the team that gets the other guys big man in trouble to have a major advantage here. JWill is quicker and should be able to enice him into a few clumsy plays but the dude is a damn house and rebounds will be tough to come by. Not UNC tough with three huge guys but tough nonetheless.

Accventures what are you thinking the terps chances are for the NCAA tournament? Looks like after the VT loss to BC we are looking at the 6 seed in the ACC tournament if we win out. That would mean a first round match up with GT. With a potential match up with FSU in the second round. We should be favored starting tomorrow in all 4 games. I would think 4 wins would get us in. 22 wins on the season even if they are against bad teams should still put us close to getting in. Keep up the good work betting terps games.

I think the ONLY chance we have to make the Dance is to win out and then win those two ACC Tourney games. BC winning last night was a very bad thing. The other thing I worry about is we get the 7 seed, Dook finishes 2nd in the standings and we get them on Friday. Things have not gone our way in the last week, starting with our loss and then VT beating Dook followed by that same shthole team losing to a very average BC team at HOME last night.
We have our backs against the wall. It's a one and done type scenario starting tonight.

Need FSU to win tonight too. UNC has GOT to lose one of these final two games. They can be beaten but Dook just seems to be alot less beatable for the Terps.

I could see the over hitting as well......I think the Terps win this game oh...Terps have looked really good against the bottom feeders of the ACC.
Go Terps......you think they have any shot of making the tourney if they win out and make it a certain distance in the tourney, if so how far do you think they will have to go? I am thinking they win out and pull off a win against a UNC or Duke in the tourney is their only hope....
I think at best we will finish 6th in the ACC if Clemson losses one of the next two (at Duke, vs. VaTech). We could have had a chance to tie for 5th with BC but we really messed that up.

You know what is going to hurt bubble teams in the other 4 confs, the BE and B-10 could end up with 16 or more teams in the NCAAs,if they put Villanova in also thats a mistake. Plus you know Mich St is going to get a spot, some teams or Coaches get in on Rep.,those are 2 off the top of my head. Ive heard 10 teams from the BE could be in,that is to many from one conf. imo.

I agree that's where the game will be decided, but Miami has some backups with size, too.
I disagree with UNC being easier to beat for UMD though. They are certainly worse than Duke, but I don't think the Terps can keep up with UNC on the scoreboard and all you need is a tough shooting start to compete with Duke because Williams will score much easier on the Dukies frontcourt rather than the 'Heels. Hope you guys make a run to get Gary in the tournament

UNC poses problems on the glass but they TYPICALLY don't shoot nearly as well as they did the other night while Dook cannot ever seem to miss when we play. I think you could catch UNC on a terrible night shooting and win pretty easily (see their game with UNC). Dook has so any damn offensive weapons.

BOL. I'll be pulling for you and over 143.5 while I'm watching.
I went with my heart and took the Terps at -1.5. Hoping it isn't a classic case them going down there against an inferior 'Canes team and just shitting the bed b/c they weren't motivated. They have all the motivation in the world...their tourney hopes are on the line.
UNC on sunday was tough. But they are a good team too. Cut down on the turnovers, make the foul shots like they have been...and it should be a good night.
