It’s been a nightmare start for the Toronto Argonauts, with last season’s Grey Cup glory feeling like a distant memory, and the road gets no easier tonight as they welcome the 2-0 Saskatchewan Roughriders to BMO Field.

With Chad Kelly still sidelined, Toronto’s offense has sputtered out of the gate, and my Roughriders vs Argonauts predictions signal another difficult outing for the hosts against a Saskatchewan team that’s laid down an early marker this year.

Roughriders vs Argonauts prediction

My Roughriders vs Argonauts pick: Roughriders -3.5 (-115 at BET99)

The Saskatchewan Roughriders belong at the forefront of any conversation about Grey Cup contenders, and they’re off to an eye-catching unbeaten start. They haven’t had it all their way, with a pair of five-point victories, but the visitors are rightly favored here against the faltering Toronto Argonauts.

A menacing Saskatchewan defense held the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to just 10 points through three quarters last weekend, and I’m comfortable laying the points for this small spread, particularly with veteran QB Trevor Harris getting the max out of the Roughriders’ offense.

A.J. Ouellette and KeeSean Johnson were the difference-makers on Saturday, and I’m counting on Harris to put together steady drives again here, even with Week 1 star Samuel Emilus ruled out. The Roughriders have piled up seven TDs across their two wins while showing off an extra gear.

While the visitors are rolling, it’s been a different story for the Argos, who’ve posted a combined 29 points so far this season. Nick Arbuckle has tossed four picks through two games while deputizing for Chad Kelly, and there’s no obvious fix for the hosts — who will also be without Janarion Grant, Wynton McManis, Jack Cassar, DaVaris Danie, and Deonta McMahon.

Though Toronto will be backed by home support, this line is a little light, especially on the heels of just four first-half points in Week 2. Arbuckle is saying all the right things with the spotlight getting brighter, but can he rebound and cut down the turnovers? I’m not so sure.

Saskatchewan has covered the spread in the past three meetings between these teams, and in four straight games overall. All the value points towards the Riders as they look to move to 3-0.

Roughriders vs Argonauts same-game parlay (SGP)

Roughriders -3.5

Under 49.5

It would be easy to look at the Roughriders’ first two contests and jump on the Over, but I’m pumping the brakes on that. While Saskatchewan has scored with ease so far this year, Toronto’s numbers provide plenty of reasons for hesitation.

The Argos have cashed the Under in both outings this month, largely due to a lack of offensive rhythm. They were marginally better in Week 2 than in the season opener, but the Riders won't have their hands full.

As a result, this could turn into a more defensive battle. I like the Under on a line of 49.5 for tonight’s total, and two of the last four matchups between these teams have fallen well short of this number.

Ouellette’s success running the ball last weekend (13 carries for 96 yards and a touchdown) is another factor to consider. If the visitors lean into the ground game, that could drain the clock and nudge the scoreline towards the Under.
