Week 11 in the CFL kicks off on tonight with a clash between the Ottawa Redblacks and Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Princess Auto Stadium.
After a 3-0 start to the season, Winnipeg has struggled, and my Redblacks vs. Blue Bombers predictions are fading them as favorites.
Here are my best free CFL picks for this showdown on August 14.
Redblacks vs Blue Bombers prediction
My Redblacks vs Blue Bombers pick: Redblacks +4.5 (-110 at BET99)
This CFL season's theme has been league-wide parity and close games, which made it a bit surprising to see the Winnipeg Blue Bombers open as 6.5-point favorites here. After all, they've lost four of their last five, with their only win during that span happening due to special teams heroics.
Early money has come in on the Ottawa Redblacks, slimming the spread to -4.5 as of Thursday afternoon, but I still like the visitors at that number.
The Bombers squandered a 17-point lead last Saturday, losing on a last-second field goal to the Stampeders. Their offense has been sloppy, and while they took care of the ball last week, they still have a league-high 26 turnovers.
On the other side of the ball, missed tackles and blown coverages have led to defensive breakdowns. Winnipeg is second-last in the CFL in yards allowed per pass attempt (9.47), with that number ballooning to 10.75 over the last five games.
The Redblacks have attacked downfield with a healthy Dru Brown under center. He's led them to back-to-back victories and threw for 373 yards with five scores last week. Expect Ottawa's explosive aerial attack to torch Winnipeg's secondary and keep this game close.
Redblacks vs Blue Bombers same-game parlay (SGP)
I'm counting on Ottawa to move the ball against a Bombers side that has surrendered more than 30 points in four of its last five contests.
That said, the Redblacks also have a mediocre defense, although their season-long numbers have been helped by a pair of games against Calgary, where the Stamps had P.J. Walker at QB, and when a torrential downpour suppressed offense.
Despite those two contests, the Redblacks are still seventh in the league in yards allowed per play (6.90) while the Bombers are ninth (7.15). Ottawa has been gashed for 30+ points in three of its last five games, giving up 42 points last week.
While Winnipeg's offense has struggled with consistency, they still have a proven QB in two-time MOP Zach Collaros, as well as weapons like Brady Oliveira and Nic Demski. Expect big plays from both teams and take the Over in this SGP.
