The Edmonton Elks head to Regina to face the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Friday night.
Despite ending last year on a high note and revamping their defense in the offseason, the Elks are once again the worst team in the CFL.
As a result, my Elks vs. Roughriders predictions will continue to fade them in Week 8.

My Elks vs Roughriders pick: Roughriders -8.5 (-110 at BET99)
It continues to be tough sledding for the Edmonton Elks, who are 1-4 straight up and against the spread, with all of their losses coming by double digits.
The Elks are last in the CFL in points per game allowed (34.0) and yards allowed per play (7.65). They're getting torched through the air and on the ground, ranking last in opponent pass efficiency (131.0) and second-last in yards allowed per rush (5.4).
That's bad news against a Saskatchewan Roughriders offense that averages a league-high 7.56 yards per play. Quarterback Trevor Harris leads the CFL in pass efficiency (118.0) while A.J. Ouellette is third in rushing yards (428) on 5.6 yards per pop.
Meanwhile, Edmonton's offense is dead-last in passing yards per game (218.2). In an effort to ignite that aerial attack the Elks have benched Tre Ford in favor of 2023 Grey Cup MVP Cody Fajardo.
Fajardo was Saskatchewan's starting QB from 2019 to 2022 and he's a more accurate passer than Ford. However, Edmonton's receivers can't separate and the line is weak in pass protection. That will make it tough for him to turn around this offense.

While I don't think the Elks will be able to go blow-for-blow with the Riders, I do think Fajardo will raise the play of this offense. After all, Saskatchewan's pass defense is vulnerable, ranking second-last in the league in passing yards allowed per game (329.2) and third-last in opponent pass efficiency (101.3).
That said, I don't see the Elks slowing down this highly-efficient Riders offense either. Expect a shootout where the Elks simply don't have the weapons to keep up.
