The Under has gone 10-1 in the Edmonton Elks' last 11 games. There are a couple of reasons for that trend. The first is that Edmonton's defense has improved after looking historically bad to start the year.
Through Week 7, the Elks were last in the CFL in points per game allowed (34.0) and yards per play allowed (7.65). Since then, they've limited foes to 24.3 PPG on 6.23 yards per play.
Another reason they've been cashing Under tickets is because their offense doesn't attack downfield.
Edmonton has been efficient on offense with Cody Fajardo under center, but he ranks last among starting QBs in average passing depth. The Elks have relied on quick passes and shorter routes to move the chains and control the clock.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have also stepped up on defense after struggling with blown coverages and missed tackles at the start of the year.
They are fresh off a win where they held Hamilton's explosive offense to just three points and 5.6 yards per play. They have now allowed the fewest offensive touchdowns in the CFL (31) while boasting the lowest opponent second-down conversion rate.
Another factor to consider is that both teams are coming off a bye week, which should give these defenses extra time to prepare for the offensive schemes they face.
