Spain and Argentina meet in Sunday's 2026 FIFA World Cup final with football's biggest prize on the line as two of the tournament's most complete sides square off at MetLife Stadium on July 19.

Spain enter as deserved favorites in the World Cup odds after conceding just one goal all tournament, but defending champions Argentina have built a reputation for thriving in exactly these high-pressure moments behind Lionel Messi and one of the most experienced squads in international football.

Four of the last five World Cup finals have required extra time, and my Spain vs. Argentina prediction and World Cup picks expect another tightly contested battle that remains deadlocked through 90 minutes.

 TOP PICK
Who will win Argentina vs Spain: Draw (+198)

Spain have been the best team at this tournament, but I'm not convinced they're a full 90-minute favorite against an Argentina side that has built its identity around surviving these exact moments.

Spain will almost certainly control possession, patiently building through Rodri before looking to isolate Lamine Yamal and Alex Baena in space. Argentina won't try to match that style. Lionel Scaloni's side are comfortable defending in compact numbers, absorbing pressure, and waiting for transition opportunities through Messi and Julian Alvarez.

Spain deserve to be favorites, but they also haven't faced a side as comfortable playing without the ball as Argentina. The longer this match stays level, the more pressure shifts onto Spain to break through, while Argentina become increasingly dangerous knowing a single moment of Messi brilliance can decide the trophy.

With four of the last five World Cup finals requiring extra time, expect another tense, tactical battle where neither side does enough to separate itself. My prediction is a 1-1 draw through regulation.

Playable to +170.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Argentina haven't just created chances throughout this tournament — they've created the highest-quality chances. They rank first in both expected goals (xG) and xG efficiency, combining elite chance creation with clinical finishing when opportunities arise.

Argentina vs Spain Over/Under pick: Under 2.5 (-149)

World Cup finals are rarely played at full throttle from the opening whistle, and this matchup feels no different. The stakes are enormous, meaning every mistake is magnified, and neither manager will want to be the first to blink.

Spain will dominate possession, but that doesn't necessarily translate into clear-cut chances against an Argentina defense content to protect the middle of the pitch and force play wide. At the other end, Argentina have little reason to speed the game up against a Spanish side that thrives when matches become open.

Neither manager benefits from chasing this game early. Spain know Argentina are lethal in transition, while Argentina understand stretching the match only creates more opportunities for Spain's attacking midfielders. Expect long spells of possession, few risks, and limited scoring chances until late in the match.

I'm expecting a patient opening hour before each side finds a breakthrough, with a 1-1 scoreline keeping the Under 2.5 alive through regulation.

Playable to -160.

Who will lift the trophy? Argentina (+144)

I backed Argentina at 10/1 before the tournament, and I’m not abandoning that position or hedging now. Spain may control possession, but Argentina possess the composure, leadership, and championship mentality required to survive a final.

They’re comfortable suffering without the ball and waiting for one decisive opening.

With Lionel Messi leading a battle-tested group that refuses to panic, I’m backing Argentina to finish the job and lift the trophy at +144.
