Wings vs Mystics Predictions, Picks, Odds for Today’s WNBA Game

The Mystics and Wings have both been horrid this season, and while our WNBA picks admit this game could get ugly, there's a distinct edge in the spread that we're looking to attack.

Two teams that might already be looking to next season face off Saturday, as the Dallas Wings visit the Washington Mystics, in a battle of the two worst records in the WNBA.

How rough is it going for both teams? Well, consider that Dallas is currently on a league-worst 9-game losing streak, and is listed as a 2-point favorite in the WNBA odds, which is the angle my Wings vs. Mystics prediction attacks.

Check my free WNBA picks below, and why our best bet is leaning on the last-place Mystics.

Wings vs Mystics predictions

My best bet
Mystics +2 (-110 at bet365)

My analysis
The Washington Mystics (2-13) opened the season on a 12-game losing streak, and finally broke through with back-to-back wins, before dropping an 88-81 loss to the Indiana Fever Wednesday night.

The Mystics have struggled across the board, including averaging 76.3 points per game on 41.5% shooting, both ranking 11th in the 12-team league. That scoring output has been better lately over the last five, putting up 84.4 points per game while hitting from 3-point range at a 38.9% clip, both Top-4 marks in the league over that time.

More scoring has helped a defense that’s currently mid-pack, allowing 82.7 points per game — though teams are still shooting at a W-best 45.1% mark against them on the year.

You would think that would be advantage Dallas Wings, who happen to boast the league’s No. 2 scorer in Arike Ogunbowale. While she dropped 31 last game against Chicago, it wasn’t enough, as Dallas (3-11) lost 83-72, leaving the Wings without a win since May 26.

Ogunbowale — who’s fighting an ailing Achilles injury herself — can only do so much, as Dallas is riddled with injuries. The Wings are already down All-WNBA First-Teamer Satou Sabally (shoulder) and Natasha Howard (foot), the team’s second and third-leading scorers. Furthermore, early MIP candidate Maddy Siegrist broke her left index finger this week and will miss about two months.

The Wings’ offense has stalled lately, cracking 78 points only twice in the last six games. Their 77.2 scoring average and 27.7% 3-point shooting are second-worst in the W over that span.

While Dallas has won three in a row in this head-to-head, they’re pretty beat up. Washington’s better form of late, and those extra points should be the play Saturday.

Wings vs Mystics same-game parlay (SGP)

Mystics +2.5

Arike Ogunbowale Over 25.5 points

Julie Vanloo Over 1.5 3-point makes

Ogunbowale’s bucket-getting will be leaned on again with so many Wings scorers ailing.

She’s attempting a career-high 23 field goal attempts per game, just a little under four attempts more than her career high, while shooting a career-worst 35.8% from the field and 33.1% from three. It won’t be pretty, but volume and the Mystics’ porous defense should push her past that scoring total Saturday.

Julie Vanloo is inside the Top 25 in terms of 3-point shooting for the Mystics, and she’s been given a line of 1.5 3-point makes against Dallas.

She did only shoot a rough 2-for-10 from distance in Washington’s loss to Indiana last game, but it marked the fifth straight game she’s connected on at least a pair of 3-pointers.

The rookie has yet to face the Wings, but her 36.4% make rate in the last five games on 6.6 attempts has her in line for cracking that number again.
