The Atlanta Dream will try to snap their four-game losing streak when they host the Golden State Valkyries for the Fourth of July.

Atlanta comes in as a 4.5-point favorite, but I’m taking the visitors to pull off the upset in my Valkyries vs. Dream predictions below.

Let’s see why I’m taking Golden State to win as I break down my free WNBA picks for Saturday, July 4.

Valkyries vs Dream prediction

Valkyries vs Dream best bet: Valkyries moneyline (+140)

The Golden State Valkyries lead the league in defensive scoring, allowing 77.9 ppg. That’s not all down to their slow pace of play: they also rank second in defensive rating (102.1), and hold opponents to 42.3% shooting from the field.

Combine that with a 39.9% three-point rate and shooting 35% from beyond the arc, and you have a winning game plan.

The Atlanta Dream have lost four in a row, including two at the hands of the Valkyries last week. I’m taking Golden State to win this one outright, which I think is worth a look at +120 or better.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Valkyries hold opponents to a league-low 45.6% shooting from two-point range, which will be trouble for an Atlanta team that relies on getting 50.9% of its points in the paint, more than any other team in the WNBA.

Valkyries vs Dream same-game parlay

The Valkyries play strong defense and play slowly. The Dream are also stingy, ranking 4th in the WNBA with a 104.2 defensive rating. Both games between these teams last week ended well below this total.

Golden State has hit the Under in seven of its last eight games, and I’m backing the Under today.

I’m also taking Valkyries forward Gabby Williams to hit her rebounding total. While Williams (15.8 ppg) is best known as a scorer, she has shown a knack for crashing the boards, getting 4+ rebounds in each of her games against the Dream last week.

Beyond that, she’s averaging 3.8 rebounds per game and should be able to get to the Over again in Saturday’s matchup.

Valkyries vs Dream player prop pick

Angel Reese Over 26.5 points + rebounds (-105)

Angel Reese is getting more than enough usage to reach double digits on a regular basis. She’s averaging 14.8 ppg and hasn’t scored fewer than 10 points in a game since May 17.

Her rebounding prowess is well documented: she snagged 12 boards in both games with Golden State last week, and is averaging 11.7 rebounds per game for the season.

Reese put up 15 points and 12 boards last time out against the Valkyries, and has put up double-doubles in three of her last four games. At home, I like Reese to hit her points + rebounds Over.

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
