Have reports of the Las Vegas Aces’ demise been greatly exaggerated? No, no, they have not. If the WNBA season ended today — no, it does not end today — Las Vegas would miss the playoffs.

But the dynasty of the past should look a bit revived tonight against the Connecticut Sun. Simply put, Connecticut is that bad, worst in the WNBA by a wide margin.

My Sun vs. Aces predictions and WNBA picks are largely based on doubt in Connecticut. Tip comes at 10 ET on Wednesday, June 25.

Sun vs Aces predictions

My Sun vs Aces best bet: Under 160.5 (-110 at BetMGM)

The Las Vegas Aces are favored by 19 points. A team with the No. 9 net rating in the WNBA should not be favored by 19 points against anybody.

Wait, let’s rephrase that. A team with the No. 9 net rating in the WNBA should not be favored by 19 points against anybody except the Connecticut Sun.

Connecticut’s net rating of -20.3 implies the Sun are outscored by 20 points per 100 possessions. Maybe Las Vegas does not cover this spread tonight simply because it is so large, but this should not be a competitive game.

Hence the Under. The Sun do not have enough offense — especially now that Marina Mabrey is out for the near future with a knee concern — to turn a blowout into an Over. Their offensive rating is nearly six points worse per 100 possessions than the No. 12 offense in the WNBA, Chicago’s broken system.

A 90-70 game to threaten this Over would rely on Las Vegas pressing the gas until the end. These Aces can put up those kinds of points, but they have done so lately only when pressed. The Sun simply will not force that issue. Expect a lopsided and therefore lazy affair late.

Sun vs Aces same-game parlay (SGP)

Under 159.5

A'ja Wilson Under 22.5 points

A'ja Wilson Under 9.5 rebounds

A’ja Wilson should not need to play more than 30 minutes tonight, if even that many. Again, Connecticut is that bad.

Wilson has already fallen short of 23 points in six of 10 games this season, not to mention grabbing single-digit rebounds in four of her last five games.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
