Storm vs Sky Predictions, Picks, Odds for Tonight’s WNBA Game

Jewell Loyd and Nneka Ogwumike are starting to find a groove together in Seattle, and it should bode well for the former's output tonight against the Chicago Sky.

After a slow start to the season, the Seattle Storm ride a two-game winning streak to Wintrust Arena to take on the Chicago Sky.

Despite both teams sitting at .500, the Storm are a 3-point road favorite, according to the WNBA odds. My Storm vs. Sky predictions think that might have something to do with Seattle's MVP candidate starting to heat up.

Find out where my best bets lie in our WNBA picks on Tuesday, May 28.

Storm vs Sky predictions

My best bet
Jewell Loyd Over 21.5 points (-110 at bet365)

My analysis

The Seattle Storm came into the season among the favorites by the WNBA championship odds, and after dropping three of their first four games, they appear to be back on a playoff trajectory.

Seattle is coming off a dominant 101-69 win over the Washington Mystics to give them two victories in a row, and the combo of Jewell Loyd and Nneka Ogwumike is starting to look like one of the scariest in the WNBA.

While Ogwumike was the big offseason acquisition, this remains Loyd’s team as the former No. 1 pick gets going in her 10th season with the franchise. The five-time All-Star has long been one of the league’s best scorers and led the league last year with 24.7 per game.

Despite a quiet opening night, she’s snapped back into form with two 24-plus-point games in her last four outings. Even with Ogwumike's addition, Loyd’s still one of the highest-usage players in the league, averaging 18.8 shots, 5.2 threes, and 6.8 free throws.

It’s going to be one heck of a challenge for the Chicago Sky to slow down Loyd, especially with the threat of Ogwumike in the frontcourt. The Sky have had some bright moments to start the season, but their defense remains a question.

Chicago has the fifth-worst defensive rating in the WNBA (104.2) and is allowing the second-highest 3-point percentage to opponents (36.1%) while giving up the second-most 2-pointers per game (23.8).

With Loyd’s range from behind the arc and ability to get downhill and attack the rim, she’s capable of exposing wherever the Sky are weakest. She’s an all-around threat, going 6-for-12 from three in her last two games, but with Kamilla Cardoso, the No. 3 overall pick, still out for this game, Loyd could find her most success driving to the bucket against this shorthanded Chicago frontcourt.

Storm vs Sky same-game parlay (SGP)

Jewell Loyd Over 21.5 points

Nneka Ogwumike Over 8.5 rebounds

Angel Reese Under 11.5 points

Having Ogwumike in the paint pulling down boards will surely help Loyd drop some major points on Chicago. With the eight-time All-Star leading the way with her 8.3 rebounds per game, the Storm are the second-best rebounding team in the WNBA.

Ogwumike's already topped 8.5 rebounds in three of four games, and Chicago is allowing the most rebounds per game in the WNBA to opponents (38.8). Of course, Angel Reese is always a rebounding threat, but she’s going to have her hands full trying to score on Seattle.

The rookie is averaging 12.3 points per game, but shooting just 35.7% from the floor. The Storm are second in the WNBA in defensive rating (97.5) and fourth in field goal percentage allowed (41.6%).
