The Sparks head north to take on the Tempo without Kelsey Plum. Jason Logan singles out reserve guard Rae Burrell, who has more than picked up the slack since L.A.'s star has gone down.

The injury depleted Los Angeles Sparks find no sympathy north of the border when they visit the Toronto Tempo.

Los Angeles is missing stars Kelsey Plum and Cameron Brink, which has L.A. as a 1.5-point road underdog. Toronto is in the same boat, having battled injuries all season and still playing without guards Brittney Sykes and Kiki Rice.

Plum’s absence is a big one and has our Sparks vs. Tempo predictions targeting reserve guard Rae Burrell, who jumps into the starting five tonight.

She’s seen an uptick in action whenever Plum is out and my WNBA picks are taking Burrell to blow past her points prop on June 25.

Sparks vs Tempo prediction

Sparks vs Tempo best bet: Rae Burrell Over 16.5 points (-105)

On the season, Rae Burrell owns a usage rate of just 15.2% coming off the bench for the Los Angeles Sparks.

In the last three games without Kelsey Plum, Burrell’s usage soared to 24.4% and she’s put up 16, 19 and 22 points.

Even with a hobbled Plum in action Sunday, Burrell led the Sparks in usage (26.2%) and scored 19 points on 5-for-10 shooting versus New York.

In the last three Plum-less contests, she’s a collective 20-for-37 with 11 of 14 from the foul line. I have Burrell projected for 18+ points which should have Over 16.5 priced at -135.

Covers COVERS INTEL: L.A. coach Lynne Roberts praised Burrell’s slashing ability. She scores 5.1 of her average 11.6 ppg in the paint and faces the worst PITP defense in the WNBA (44.7).

Sparks vs Tempo same-game parlay

Both teams have massive holes in their lineup, but the Toronto Tempo are getting healthier, especially in the frontcourt.

That helps the Tempo improve their interior defense as well as rebounding, limiting any second chance looks for opponents.

Toronto’s defense is dreadful, but a little better at home. Its rating goes from 118.4 as a visitor to 100.7 as a host and Coca-Cola Coliseum is a sight for sore eyes after three-game road trip.

Sparks vs Tempo player prop pick

Marina Mabrey Over 22.5 points (-125)

Bookies are finally making a notable adjustment to Marina Mabrey’s scoring totals and I don’t care.

I’m back on Mabrey to top her scoring prop despite the market upping her points total to 22.5 after it bounced between 18.5 and 20.5 O/U the last two games.

She was already topping the team in usage (28.4%), but that metric has spiked to 34% in the last two outings. Mabrey has scored a collective 60 points on 22-for-41 shooting, including 12 made triples.

With Brittney Sykes and Kiki Rice out, Mabrey is the primary backcourt weapon for the Tempo. Her ceiling is sky high, as evidenced by her explosive performance against Connecticut on June 19.

She had a tougher time against a stiff Atlanta defense Monday but now comes home to face a Sparks squad ranked second last in defensive rating. Los Angeles already allows the second most points to guards (56.8) and is now missing its top perimeter defender in Kelsey Plum.

L.A.’s backcourt runs small beyond 6-foot-2 Rae Burrell, leaving 5-foot-7 Erica Wheeler and 5-foot-10 Ariel Atkins to get bullied by the 6-foot-1 Mabrey, who is among the most physical guards in the league.

My projections for Mabrey come out to 25+ points in a game that should be played at a higher gear, given these clubs rank Top 5 in pace rating.
