Year 2 magic meets a decade-long drought as the Golden State Valkyries reach the WNBA Finals in just their second season, while the Atlanta Dream return to the title stage for the first time since 2013 after both swept through the semifinals.

Neither franchise has hoisted the trophy yet, but our WNBA picks & Dream vs. Valkyries prediction for Game 1 see the visiting underdogs drawing first blood on Saturday, Oct. 17.

Find out why Atlanta's powerhouse frontcourt duo of Angel Reese and DeWanna Bonner are primed to dominate the glass and scoreboard, and why Gabby Williams is set to light it up in front of the home faithful.

 TOP PICK
Dream vs Valkyries prediction: Dream moneyline

I price this line closer to 50%, so trading it at 43% is quite a value.

The Atlanta Dream finished the regular season on a roll, winning nine of their final 10 games in dominant fashion. In that span, Atlanta ranked first in Offensive Rating (117.3), second in Defensive Rating (98) and first in Net Rating (19.3).

Over the last eight road games of the regular season, the Dream went 7-1 and outscored opponents by 15.9 ppg.

Atlanta’s end-of-season success carried over into the playoffs, and Atlanta’s 13.2 postseason road Net Rating is best in the W by a mile.

Even if Allisha Gray (hand) is sidelined, I’m backing the Dream thanks to their depth of scoring options, strong defense and emergence of DeWanna Bonner.

Atlanta has the edge on offense because of their interior scoring and rebounding abilities, which can counteract the Golden State Valkyries elite perimeter defense.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Dream have benefited from DeWanna Bonner’s presence, seeing notable improvements in point differential and opponent scoring with her in the lineup. In five regular-season games with Bonner in the lineup, Atlanta’s point differential shot up from five to 21.2, and opponent scoring dropped from 85.8 to 74 ppg.

Dream vs Valkyries combo

Angel Reese averaged a career-best 16.4 ppg in her first season with the Dream, and she’s been even better in the playoffs, averaging 18 and scoring 15+ in each of her last four games.

The DPOY has been less involved as a rebounder and more involved as a scorer, and she’ll be asked to put interior pressure on Golden State to open up opportunities for teammates and break down the Valkyries’ elite perimeter defense.

I’ll trade this line to 16.5.

Bonner has corralled 6+ rebounds in four of her last seven games, including three of her last four on the road.

Her postseason Defensive Rebound Percentage of 23.1% ranks fourth among players averaging 20+ mpg, and the Dream would be wise to keep her involved to control the paint and limit second-chance opportunities for Golden State’s three-point-focused offense.

Trade to 6.5.

Dream vs Valkyries player prop: Gabby Williams Over 19.5 points

Gabby Williams averaged 19.3 points across three matchups with the Dream this season, significantly higher than her 14.4 ppg season average. Chase Center was an advantageous environment for Williams, who averaged 16.1 ppg at home compared to just 12.5 on the road.

“Big Shot Gabby” has taken her scoring to another level in the postseason, averaging 22.7 points while reaching the 20-point threshold four times. She leads her team in scoring and FGA (17.8) by a comfortable margin, well ahead of Tiffany Hayes’ 13.3 points on 9.7 shots.

Williams is the engine for Golden State’s offense, and the V’s will need her best effort throughout this series if they want to capture a title. Trade to 52%.
