No matter which way you slice it, the Chicago Sky are the far superior team, even despite Sabrina Ionescu's talent and production. As such, back them to cover the 7.5-point number — as our WNBA betting picks and predictions explain.

Just as the Sky were putting together a notable win streak, they fell in Washington on Wednesday.

Chicago responded with an important conference win at Connecticut on Friday, but to wrap up this Eastern road trip with a winning record, the Sky will now need to hold serve at New York.

On the surface, that should not be too difficult, favored against one of the lesser teams in the WNBA.

Here are our free WNBA picks and predictions for the Sky at the Liberty on June 12.

Sky vs Liberty picks and predictions

Our side and total predictions are based upon our analysis of the line and total in this game. Our best bet is our favorite pick across all markets.

Spread analysis

No matter how good Sabrina Ionescu is, no one who has watched the WNBA in recent years will dispute that she alone cannot keep the Liberty on the Sky’s level.

Ionescu may be averaging 16.8 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 5.1 assists while not missing a game this season, but that has been only good enough to spur New York to a 5-8 record.

Meanwhile, Chicago looks to be getting closer and closer to its Finals form of a year ago. The Sky are now averaging 81.8 points per game, including at least 82 in each of its last three. Three different players have led Chicago in scoring in those three games, highlighted by Emma Meesseman’s 26 points on Friday.

Five members of the Sky average double digits while appearing in the majority of its games. Just three Liberty players can claim the same. Spreading that workload as such buoys Chicago, always trusting at least one player will come through with a stellar showing.

That depth alone is reason to back the Sky today and to get this far into that confidence without mentioning the pending matchup problem that will be Candace Parker only serves to underscore this pick. Parker averages 8.3 rebounds per game, a number she should cruise past against New York’s relatively undersized lineup.

Prediction: Sky -7.5 (-110 at BetMGM)

Over/Under analysis

Betting this Over relies too much on the Liberty. More exactly, it relies too much on the Liberty when not playing the worst teams in the league.

Currently, New York stands No. 9 in the WNBA standings. It has played six games against teams worse in terms of win-loss concerns. In those contests, the Liberty averages 85.5 points. In its other seven games, that number plummets to 67.6 points, including a 50-point failure against Chicago in the season’s first week.

To propel this game past its total of 160.5, the Sky may need to score 95 itself, a number it has reached just once. New York cannot be counted on to put the ball in the basket against quality competition these days.

Prediction: Under 160.5 (-110 at Caesars)

Best bet

The Liberty have covered as single-digit underdogs just twice in six tries this season, and one of those came in an eight-point loss as an 8.5-point underdog. The real kicker in that scenario? The loss came in overtime; New York tried to give away the ATS win.

The other such ATS victory came in the season opener.

Beating up on the Indiana Fever and the Minnesota Lynx — three of the Liberty’s five outright wins — has camouflaged how terrible New York is.

Chicago will have no difficulty seeing past that camouflage. It certainly did not when it routed the Liberty 83-50 a month ago. Since then, the Sky has gotten only better.

Pick: Sky -7.5 (-110 at BetMGM)

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
