The NBA Draft may get the headlines, but you can also enjoy some actual basketball tonight.

With two WNBA games on tap, I’ve cooked up three props, primarily focused on the latest matchup between the New York Liberty and Golden State Valkyries.

Here are my WNBA picks for Wednesday, June 25.

WNBA player prop bets for June 25

  • Liberty Sabrina Ionescu o19.5 points (-120)
  • Valkyries Kayla Thornton o6.5 rebounds (-115)
  • Aces A’ja Wilson u21.5 points (-105)

Today's best WNBA player props bets

Sabrina Ionescu Over 19.5 points (-120 at DraftKings)

Sabrina Ionescu thought she had played in her native Northern California for the last time some five years ago.

I feel like I kind of said goodbye to the Bay Area my last year playing in college when we played against Cal and Stanford,” the former Oregon Duck said this week.

Thanks to the expansion of the WNBA with the Golden State Valkyries, Ionescu can trust she will play near her hometown every season the rest of her career, beginning tonight.

While a neck worry sidelined Ionescu on Sunday, some of that decision may have been a precaution to be certain she could play tonight. The New York Liberty star has cleared 20 points in six of 12 games this season, including three of her last four.

The Golden State Valkyries are better than expected, far better than an expansion team usually would be. Credit coaching, and credit the fact that the talent pool is far deeper than the WNBA’s current roster spots.

Tonight should remain a single-digit game. With that in mind, Ionescu should play a full game, and that sets her up to take 15-20 shots.

Kayla Thornton Over 6.5 rebounds (-115 at BetMGM)

Also, credit Kayla Thornton, leading the Valkyries in points, rebounds, steals, and minutes. The 10-year veteran has handled this shift well, moving from a rotation player with the champion Liberty a year ago to the workhorse of the expansion Valkyries.

Without Thornton, New York has a rebounding deficiency anytime Jonquel Jones is sidelined, as she will be for at least the next month thanks to her second sprained ankle of the season.

Thornton is best positioned among the Valkyries to take advantage of that deficiency, already averaging 7.2 rebounds per game this season.

She still assuredly wants to represent her new team well against her old team. An upset may not be in the making, but there will be plenty of rebounding chances for Thornton.

A’ja Wilson Under 21.5 points (-105 at DraftKings)

A’ja Wilson has returned from a concussion with her usual quality, scoring 20 and 24 points in two games since missing a few with that worry, adding a total of 21 rebounds and five blocks.

However, the story of the Las Vegas Aces’ season remains rather unchanged: they are dependent on Wilson.

For once, the Aces should be able to handle things without a stellar performance from the three-time MVP. There is a reason Las Vegas is a 19-point favorite against the Connecticut Sun. Mainly, the Sun are rather bad in their first year after the Alyssa Thomas Era.

Wilson may not even need to play the full game. She has reached 34 minutes in each of her two games back from the concussion protocol, but even this diminished version of Las Vegas should not need that effort tonight.

Furthermore, Wilson has fallen short of 22 points in six of 10 games this season.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
