Stars are in action tonight in the WNBA, and as long as the Commissioner’s Cup is afoot, Overs should be emphasized.

Jonquel Jones Over 9.5 rebounds

The New York Liberty are slowly figuring things out. Their ugly 3-4 start has now yielded a five-game winning streak, including going 4-1 against the spread with the sole ATS loss coming in still a nine-point win.

Some of that ties to Jonquel Jones finding her footing, logging double-digit rebounds in four of her last five games with the exception still featuring nine boards. Jones missed New York’s last game due to illness, though one may wonder if Jones might have played if the opponent had been more imposing than the Connecticut Sun.

Given that wonder, the only reason for this prop to not only be set as low as 9.5 but also with plus-money is deference to Angel Reese. The Atlanta Dream star will snag her share of rebounds, but this is also a ripe letdown moment for Reese, coming off a 17-point, 17-rebound vindicating showing at Chicago.

Paige Bueckers Over 18.5 points

While the Phoenix Mercury defense has improved since a wretched start to the season, a significant chunk of that improvement in defensive rating came from simply playing the Storm’s debacle of an offense. Do not yet put genuine faith into the Mercury defense.

It is too disjointed to slow down a scorer like Paige Bueckers. She poured in 23 points against the best defense in the league on Tuesday despite not playing even 30 minutes.

Bueckers may have fallen short of this prop in two of her last three games, but the delight of facing Phoenix’s struggling defense should spur her to 20 points tonight.

A'ja Wilson Over 26.5 points

One can debate if A’ja Wilson is the best player in the world. One cannot debate she is the best player available in the WNBA right now. The Las Vegas Aces’ superstar is playing some of the best basketball of her career, an absurd statement to apply to a four-time MVP but a true statement, nonetheless.

Perhaps the Commissioner’s Cup is padding these stats, given the incentive to run up the score, but Wilson has scored at least 28 points in three of her last four games, averaging 28.75 points in the stretch.

There may not be a defense in the WNBA that can slow down Wilson right now — Saturday’s matchup with the Minnesota Lynx looms. And the want to pad point differential during the Cup gives the Aces incentive to play Wilson deep into every game.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
