My Liberty vs Valkyries best bet: Valkyries +9.5 (-105 at bet365)
As the WNBA’s newest expansion team, the Golden State Valkyries were not expected to be this competitive so quickly. The V’s were blown out in the season-opener against the Los Angeles Sparks, and they sputtered over their first few contests.
But Over the last two and a half weeks, Golden State has played exceptional basketball, winning and covering in five of six games.
Those wins haven’t been over nobodies, either. In that six-game span, the Valkyries have dispatched the Indiana Fever, Seattle Storm, and Los Angeles Sparks. Golden State has won in four straight at home and covered in five straight.
The Valkyries and New York Liberty met in back-to-back games in late May at Barclays Center. The Liberty won in blowout fashion in the first meeting, but Golden State kept it close in the second meeting, going 1-1 ATS.
The Valkyries are 9-4 ATS this season compared to the Liberty’s 6-7 ATS mark. The team was a double-digit underdog in four of its last five at Chase Center but covered in each of those while winning four straight-up.
Shockingly, the Valkyries sport the WNBA’s best net rating over the last six games at a whopping 13.8, while the Liberty’s net rating is just 1.0 in that span.
Golden State has been far too good at home to be spotted 9.5 points to a Liberty team that’s struggled on the road as of late. It wouldn’t be surprising if the Valkyries pulled off an upset tonight, but the safest bet here is for them to cover the spread. I liked this when it opened at 8.5, but I love it now that it’s moved to 9.5.

Kayla Thornton Over 15.5 points
Over her last six games overall, Breanna Stewart has averaged 24 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, good for 34.3 PRA. She’s posted at least 32 PRA four times while compiling 31 and 32 PRA in the other two contests.
She averaged 33 PRA against the Valkyries in two matchups and hit the Over in one of them. Golden State’s frontcourt will be thin tonight, and Stewart should shine in a tough road battle.
With Janelle Salaun and Temi Fagbenle out of action tonight, Kayla Thornton should continue to see heavy usage in a thin Valkyries frontcourt.
Thornton’s success on offense has coincided with Golden State’s surge over the last six games. In that span, she’s averaged 19.3 points overall and 20.3 points in four home contests. Thornton has scored 16 or more points in six straight contests, and she’s reached that scoring milestone in five of seven at home this season.
At +105, these are juicy odds that I’m happy to take.
